Her influence resonated profoundly during pivotal scenes such as Aegon II’s coronation, where her unyielding Targaryen spirit was evident, adding an intensity that left me spellbound. Moreover, her unwavering loyalty to her family and steadfast sense of justice make her a standout character, solidifying her position among the finest in House of the Dragon.
8) Jacaerys Velaryon
In contrast to some viewers’ initial perceptions, Jacaerys “Jace” Velaryon didn’t initially seem like a major character, but this began to change last season. As Rhaenyra’s son grew older and became more mature, he increasingly played an important role in the council meetings, demonstrating his significance within the show. In Episode 5 of Season 2, it was Jace who had a private conversation with his mother, offering advice on her decisions. From the outside, it might appear that he resorts to cruel acts merely due to wounded pride; however, it’s essential to acknowledge that Aegon II’s triumphs would not have been possible without him, even before assuming the role as Hand of the King.
Criston is indispensable to the unfolding political drama, serving as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard with an unwavering dedication and sometimes excessive passion for his objectives. The second season provided ample room for him to explore his villainous trajectory, revealing the extremes he’ll go to secure power. His actions, frequently influenced by wounded pride and a strict adherence to honor, make him impossible to overlook – indeed, he may be detestable, but it’s hard not to be fascinated. In essence, he’s playing his part exceptionally well in this world, and that’s precisely the point.
6) Viserys Targaryen
An additional note about Viserys Targaryen’s rank: Despite his death, he remained crucial to the series. Viserys was a multi-faceted character, both as a king and a tormented individual. He constantly sought balance, but not through coercion or manipulation (particularly from Alicent). Although he may not be the most virtuous figure (after all, who among us can claim that title?), underestimating his resolve and bravery would be unwise. Witnessing him in exposed and delicate situations only enhances his appeal, as his story resonates deeply with many. This vulnerability also adds to his greatness and warrants admiration. He captivates wherever he goes, whether it’s through his mysterious aura or eloquent words. He embodies the charmingly complex villain that keeps viewers hooked on a series. Occasionally, one might even find oneself secretly cheering for him.
3) Alicent Hightower
As a devoted fan of “House of the Dragon,” I can’t help but notice the intricate dynamics at play. While some characters like Criston Cole are undeniably divisive, it’s Alicent Hightower who stands out as a complex figure. From her early years, she was molded by Otto’s ambitions, often finding herself in the role of a pawn. This relationship subtly influences her bond with Rhaenyra, which becomes a significant narrative force throughout the series. The writers masterfully delve into Alicent’s inner turmoil, as she grapples with duty, loyalty, and power – making her one of the most layered characters in the show.
Occasionally, it’s somewhat hard not to admire her, yet that feeling can switch instantly. Alicent’s actions are frequently driven by both personal beliefs and external influence, significantly fueling the growing conflicts within the narrative. If her kids play a significant role in shaping everything around them, she molds them even more profoundly. However, in Season 2, this dynamic flips, and her response is intriguing to watch, revealing a more compassionate and vulnerable side (particularly in Episode 7). 2) Daemon Targaryen
A lot of people find their favorite character intriguing because he possesses a morally ambiguous nature, which sets him apart. Daemon Targaryen exhibits bravery, audacity, arrogance, and impulsiveness, yet remains charismatic throughout. His journey in the series is characterized by an unrelenting pursuit of power and recognition, frequently clashing with societal expectations and his brother, King Viserys.
