Director Gil Junger shares his ideas for a fresh trilogy, with a sequel currently in production, following up on the 1999 teen rom-com “10 Things I Hate About You“. This beloved film featured Julia Stiles as the intelligent Kat Stratford and the late Heath Ledger as the rebellious new student Patrick. Originally based on William Shakespeare’s play “The Taming of the Shrew“, it has become a key title in the romantic comedy genre.
As I chat with folks, the visionary director behind the beloved classic has confided that he’s currently working on a sequel film titled “10 Things I Hate About Dating,” in collaboration with Andrew Lazar, who was instrumental in producing the 1999 movie. Although the project hasn’t been officially given the go-ahead yet, Junger has disclosed that he’s teaming up with Naya Elle James to pen the script for this upcoming film. This will mark the beginning of a new trilogy, with two additional films following suit: “10 Things I Hate About Marriage” and “10 Things I Hate About Kids.” Check out his comments below.
The production of “10 Reasons Why I Dislike Dating” is undoubtedly underway, and we are actively working on it at the moment, with several promising concepts in mind.
What This Means For 10 Things I Hate About Dating
Original Cast Members May Affect The Story
In an interview, it was mentioned that since 10 Things I Hate About Dating, a sequel primarily targeting people in their thirties, is in the works, director Junger doesn’t exclude the possibility of re-uniting with the original cast members. Excitedly, he expressed his desire to collaborate with Julia Stiles once more, and although the script is still being developed, he hopes for potential appearances or even substantial roles for the actors who were part of the first movie.
Much like the 1999 teen romantic comedy, “10 Things I Hate About Dating,” draws inspiration from Molière’s 1666 play, “The Misanthrope.” In this story, a character loathes hypocrisy within his social circle. As mentioned by Junger, the upcoming film is expected to pay tribute to Ledger, who tragically passed away in 2008 at the young age of 28. Interestingly, before Ledger’s demise, Junger had been collaborating with him on a sequel titled “10 Things I Hate About Me.
Our Take On 10 Things I Hate About Dating
It Sounds A Lot Better Than The Scrapped Follow-Up
For quite some time, Junger has been contemplating a sequel to the film “10 Things I Hate About You” with a male lead, but it hasn’t managed to materialize yet. After the initial 1999 release, Junger attempted another follow-up titled “10 Things About Life,” which featured Evan Rachel Wood, Thomas McDonell, and Billy Campbell. The story revolved around two individuals falling in love after a suicide attempt. Unfortunately, this film didn’t make it to production.
Although it’s been quite a while since Jünger made another film in the “10 Things I Hate” series, his enthusiasm for continuing the project is encouraging. The fact that he revisited this concept over 25 years after the initial movie suggests his unwavering commitment to serializing the “10 Things I Hate” franchise. Here’s hoping we get more updates soon about “10 Things I Hate About Dating”.
