As a seasoned gamer with memories of the PS3’s rocky beginnings etched deeply into my gaming history, I can attest that the console eventually proved its worth. Amongst the countless games that graced its library, Yakuza Kiwami stands out as one of the finest.
Among Sony’s most successful game consoles, it is true that the PlayStation 3 faced the steepest initial challenges. Issues with the Cell processor, a high initial price, and unimpressive launch games made for a tough start for the company. Despite these hurdles, Sony pressed on and provided a platform for numerous iconic first- and third-party games. Here are 15 must-play titles from that era.
Yakuza Kiwami
Given the tremendous success of the original Yakuza on the PS2 in Japan, it was quite logical to redevelop it for both PS3 and PS4 in 2016. This updated version not only delved deeper into the narrative but also overhauled the combat mechanics, allowing players to switch between four distinct Styles whenever desired (much like Yakuza 0). However, the standout new addition is Majima Everywhere, a feature that allows Kiryu’s long-time adversary to appear at any location. Combined with the timeless side activities, mini-games, and characters, Yakuza Kiwami offers an outstanding remake and a nostalgic journey back in time.
