2025 has been a rollercoaster ride for the family movie genre. On one side, the year saw the success of the PG-rated video game adaptation “A Minecraft Movie,” which raked in over $416 million domestically and $921 million globally, making it the second highest-grossing film of the year and the top Hollywood release. Additionally, the Biblically-themed animated movie, “The King of Kings,” has performed exceptionally well for a film in its niche, earning $65.7 million worldwide after its release on April 11.
To put it simply, this year has seen one notable flop in the realm of family films, specifically Disney’s live-action version of Snow White. Despite being the 6th highest-grossing movie of the year, it has only managed to earn $204 million, significantly less than its projected budget of over $240 million. In contrast, a different family film, released in the US in February and based on a franchise, was initially met with mixed reception. However, since moving to streaming, it has found new success and is now proving to be quite popular.
Paddington In Peru Is Now A Netflix Hit
The Movie Had The Lowest Gross In The Paddington Franchise
As a cinephile, I must say that “Paddington’s South American Adventure” has proven to be quite the talk of the town on Netflix. This third installment in the beloved “Paddington” series, which first graced our screens in 2014, finds the Brown family embarking on another thrilling escapade with their adopted bear son. In this chapter, they journey far and wide to Peru, where young Paddington seeks out his dear Aunt Lucy. Despite earning $168.7 million at the box office, the lowest take for any film in the series, “Paddington’s South American Adventure” has garnered a solid thumbs-up across the board, boasting a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
According to FlixPatrol, the movie “Paddington in Peru” is currently a popular hit on Netflix. It’s ranked fourth among the top 10 movies in the United States today, May 19. The film was added to the platform on May 15 and has been consistently ranked within the top 5 since then. Today, it stands alongside titles such as “Nonnas”, “Instant Family”, “A Deadly American Marriage”, “I Still Believe”, “Home”, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, “Untold: The Liver King”, “Despicable Me 4”, and “Twilight”.
What This Means For The Paddington Franchise
These Movies Still Have A Significant Audience
In the cinemas of the UK and US, where the first film in the Paddington series was highly acclaimed, the release of “Paddington in Peru” faced high expectations. However, the reception to this sequel was less enthusiastic compared to its predecessor, with mixed reviews and box office performance. Interestingly, though, the movie’s continued presence on Netflix charts indicates a dedicated fanbase for “Paddington in Peru“, positioning it as a valuable addition within the franchise.
