As someone who’s spent countless hours immersed in the digital worlds of gaming, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming releases! First off, let me tell you about MechWarrior 5: Clans, a game that’ll make every BattleTech enthusiast’s heart race. With its customizable BattleMechs and dynamic destruction, it’s like stepping back into the cockpit of your very own ‘Mech!
If you found September brimming with high-profile releases, prepare for October to take it up a notch even more! Instead of just one, there are two highly anticipated remakes of horror classics. The long-awaited continuation of one of BioWare’s legendary game series is also on the horizon. Additionally, the first paid expansion for Blizzard’s popular action RPG looter is coming out. And let’s not overlook the upcoming unique Sonic adventure with a darker undertone. Take a look at 15 exciting new games set to debut in October!
Until Dawn Remake
As a passionate admirer, I’d like to share that Supermassive Games made a significant splash with “Until Dawn.” Now, they’re giving it a fresh lease of life with a remake, set to launch on October 4th for both PS5 and PC. The team at Ballistic Moon is responsible for this revitalization. Built anew on Unreal Engine 5, the remake promises enhanced character models and textures, realistic liquid physics (such as blood splatters), improved effects, and advanced facial animations, among other upgrades.
Apart from the refreshed third-person camera view, this updated version offers a fresh perspective on familiar scenes, explores new interactive spaces, and even refurbishes its opening sequence. PlayStation Network necessities apply to PC gamers, but if you’re eager to experience Supermassive’s latest masterpiece, then the remake of Until Dawn might just be worth it for you.
Silent Hill 2 Remake
Instead of rushing to play it now, consider waiting four more days to immerse yourself in Bloober Team’s remake of one of the most terrifying horror games ever created – Silent Hill 2. This remake will be available on October 8th for both PlayStation 5 and PC. Unfortunately, gamers on other platforms will have to wait another year. The game follows James Sunderland as he delves into the enigmatic town of Silent Hill at the request of his late wife, retaining its famous foggy atmosphere and chilling characters like Pyramid Head.
Yet, almost everything except for a few aspects has undergone significant changes. For instance, there’s a fresh third-person perspective and battle dynamics, new enemy strategies, shifts in enemy locations and loot, as well as additional structures to investigate – the alterations are numerous. Despite questions regarding whether it will match the original or not, the Silent Hill 2 remake aims to establish its own merit.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake
If neither of the earlier suggestions don’t pan out, there’s another alternative – the remake of “Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8”. Originating from Koei’s 2001 turn-based strategy, it boasts a refreshed visual design, innovative elements such as Tales and Destiny (the latter influencing events dramatically), and the liberty to assume the role of any officer (expanding the count from 600 to a massive 1000). It might seem different from the high-intensity hack-and-slash action in “Dynasty Warriors”, but fans should definitely consider giving “Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake” a try upon its release on October 24th, available on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
After years of speculation, Guerilla Games officially unveiled “Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered,” slated to release on October 31st for both PS5 and PC. Regardless of the timing, there are several enhancements that could attract both longtime fans and newcomers. For instance, countless dialogues have been re-voiced, while noticeable upgrades can be found in character designs, animations, and lighting.
As a gamer, I’m super excited about diving back into the world of Horizon Zero Dawn! The game now fully utilizes the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, making each action feel more immersive. Plus, it lets you transfer saves from the original game, so you don’t lose any progress.
Throne and Liberty
Initially intended as a sequel to Lineage in 2011, Throne and Liberty underwent some changes in its development, transforming into the game we know today. This title, featuring castle sieges, large-scale PvP battles, diverse combat styles, and unique transformations, is set to launch on October 1st for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The release will extend to North America, Europe, and Japan, offering a potential fresh gaming experience. We’ll see how it fares soon.
Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred
It’s understandable if you can’t recall the finale of Diablo 4 due to its surprising final villain. In the game, players make their way to Nahantu in search of Neyrelle, the Wanderer. Along the journey, they encounter fresh foes, perilous new environments, and the Spiritborn, a helpful faction that joins the battle. Players also have the option to select the Spiritborn as a new character class, empowering various spirits and elemental abilities to vanquish their adversaries.
No matter how the tale unfolds, the Vessel of Hatred delivers a plethora of fresh content. This includes fresh Mercenaries with distinct skill sets, the revival of Runewords, and a brand-new cooperative activity, the Dark Citadel, to conquer. The release is scheduled for October 8th on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Alongside this launch, there’s a free update that significantly revamps progression, adds new skills for each class, and offers numerous additional enhancements.
Starship Troopers: Extermination
It seems that the recent update for Helldivers 2 has transformed it from an unenjoyable state into a fun one. If you’re looking for another cooperative alien-blasting shooter, then perhaps Starship Troopers: Extermination is what you need. Leaving early access on October 11th and launching on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, it offers a new campaign starring Johnny Rico from the original movie with 25 missions. Additionally, it includes base defense, thrilling first-person shooter combat, 16-player co-op, and extraction features that make gameplay so enjoyable.
Undisputed
Despite Electronic Arts’ extensive lineup of sports games, it’s disappointing that they haven’t revived the popular Fight Night series yet. For now, Steel City Interactive’s Undisputed will step in to take its place, launching on October 11th for PC and also arriving on Xbox Series X/S and PS5. This boxing game boasts over 70 fighters, various characteristics and abilities, more than 60 different punches, and a Career Mode showcasing champions from the World Boxing Council, World Boxing Organization, and International Boxing Federation. It might just be worth the wait to see how it shapes up.
Post Trauma
October isn’t just about eagerly awaited sequels and big-screen hits; it also marks the peak of the horror season. If you’re not satisfied with titles like Silent Hill and Until Dawn, prepare for the launch of Red Soul Games’ Post Trauma on October 29th, available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. In this game, you follow a train conductor named Roman, who finds himself trapped in a peculiar world and striving to escape. He faces challenges by solving puzzles and battling terrifying creatures. While it draws inspiration from classic survival horror games with its fixed camera angles, Post Trauma offers different control options, ranging from modern to tank style, for an authentic retro gaming experience.
A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead
People who enjoy terror stemming from a movie series could consider playing “A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead“. Following the arrival of lethal aliens on Earth, players take on the role of Alex Taylor, striving to escape their malevolence and safeguard her family. The emphasis on silence, avoiding unnecessary interaction with surroundings, and even gathering inhalers results in nail-biting gameplay. Whether it delivers genuine frights or an unforgettable narrative is yet to be determined, but it’s set for release on October 17th, available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
Unknown 9: Awakening
On October 18th, the action-adventure game “Unknown 9: Awakening” by Reflector Entertainment will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. This game was initially announced in 2020. Set in the 19th century, the protagonist is Haroona, who has extraordinary powers linked to The Fold. She embarks on a journey in search of answers while battling against a menacing organization called the Ascendants, who harbor ominous intentions for The Fold.
Equipped with disguise, duplication, and dimensional travel skills, Haroona will journey across various parts of the world, including India, Portugal, and numerous other destinations. Though the gameplay could benefit from some refinement, the premise is captivating, leaving us eager to follow its progress.
Europa
If you’re into games with a vibrant animation style, Europa by Future Friends Games might be just what you’re looking for. It releases on October 11th, available on both PC and Nintendo Switch. This game follows an android named Zee as he journeys through Jupiter’s moon, Europa. The stunning landscapes are filled with secrets to uncover, and the gameplay blends exploration, platforming, and puzzle-solving. There’s also a captivating mystery at play, adding emotional depth to an otherwise action-packed experience that stands out among this month’s releases.
Alan Wake 2: The Lake House
In the second and concluding paid DLC for Alan Wake 2, titled The Lake House, we return to Cauldron Lake in Bright Falls, exploring a facility with the same name that was established by the Federal Bureau of Control (famous from Control). Details about the story are scarce, but it’s apparent that something has taken a turn for the worse. The narrative unfolds through the eyes of Kiran Estevez and seems to coincide with the main game’s events, possibly providing new insights into the lake’s enigmatic powers and the Dark Presence.
“One of the most enticing features of this expansion is that it’s not a light-hearted or quirky experience like Night Springs. Instead, Remedy Entertainment aims to provide a truly chilling survival horror experience, hinting at the possibility that ‘monsters come in various forms’. Alan Wake 2: The Lake House is set for release in October and will only be accessible with the Deluxe Edition or the physical Collector’s Edition.
MechWarrior 5: Clans
Starting from October 3rd and lasting until the 17th, Clans completes the MechWarrior 5 experience, with Mercenaries released in 2021 being the first part. This installment presents a self-contained narrative with a cinematic feel, placing players within Operation Revival following their graduation from the Smoke Jaguar program.
As an ardent admirer, I eagerly anticipate the release of MechWarrior 5: Clans on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. With its customizable BattleMechs offering a multitude of choices, such as an enhanced MechLab and Hardpoint systems, I’m excited to wield new weapons, refine my pilots’ skills, and command my team to triumph. The game’s dynamic destruction promises the intense, earth-shattering battles fans crave, while its multiplayer mode, supporting up to five players, hints at a potential hidden champion in the gaming world.
Sonic X Shadow Generations
The game titled “Sonic X Shadow Generations” provides a remastered version of “Sonic Generations“. This includes a collection of fan-favorites, a “Best Of” assortment of 2D and 3D Sonic levels from the entire series (up to 2011). But what truly shines is the independent storyline centered around Shadow the Hedgehog, as he confronts the enigmatic reappearance of Black Doom.
In the game “Sonic X Shadow Generations,” set to release on October 25th for various platforms including Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC, Shadow wields new abilities and explores regions derived from his memories. These could be places like Kingdom Valley from “Sonic ’06,” or facing off against the Biolizard from “Sonic Adventure 2.” Players can expect exciting updates of iconic tracks, as well as a lot to anticipate in this upcoming game!
Life is Strange: Double Exposure
In the continuation titled “Double Exposure“, the lead character from the original Life is Strange, Max Caulfield, makes her return. She finds solace at Caledon University, enjoying a sense of belonging after years of uncertainty. However, tragedy strikes when her friend, Safi, meets an untimely end. Desperate to restore her ability to manipulate time (Rewind powers), Max inadvertently creates a gateway to another reality instead.
In this world, not only does Safi live but everything around has undergone a transformation. Time is running out though, and it’s essential that Max uncovers her murderer before it’s too late once more. With fascinating mechanics and puzzles enabling the transfer of items across dimensions, Life is Strange: Double Exposure presents another captivating supernatural enigma. This game will be available on October 29th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Least, but absolutely not insignificant, is “Dragon Age: The Veilguard“, a fresh installment in the series that’s been more than nine years since its last release. Although Solas, the Dread Wolf, may be an unpredictable factor, you can rally seven associates to your side, each with their own special skills and advancement paths, exclusive quests and driving forces.
Instead of the Inquisition, Veilguard presents a mission-driven campaign with real-time action RPG combat from my perspective as an enthusiast. As a player, I have the freedom to select among three character classes, each with three Specializations, and direct two additional party members, devising combos and defeating foes effectively (while utilizing a tactical wheel for strategic planning). With its grand scale, stunning visuals, and enticing narrative, Dragon Age: The Veilguard appears to be BioWare’s eagerly anticipated comeback when it releases on October 31st for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
