By February 2025, we’ve left the January blues behind and now eagerly anticipate the rest of the year, speculating about the exciting video games on the horizon. There are many significant game announcements expected – from new titles to gameplay previews – that we can’t wait to see more of as quickly as possible. While some of these entries might be far-fetched or overly optimistic, here are twenty big game announcements that would make us incredibly excited if they were unveiled this year.
Half-Life 3 announcement
As a passionate fan, it’s clear that I, along with countless others in the gaming community, am eagerly yearning for a third installment in the captivating sci-fi FPS series created by Valve, often referred to as Portal 3. However, the news that such a game is currently off the table leaves us all feeling a tad desolate.
The anticipation for more of their groundbreaking work doesn’t stop there. The ferocity of our longing extends to the possibility of a third entry in the legendary Half-Life franchise, disregarding the VR exclusive title, Alyx. Unfortunately, it seems that Valve Corp. has quietly shelved any plans for Half-Life 3, choosing to keep silent on the matter since expressing their reservations about surpassing the greatness of the original FPS games they’ve graced us with.
Metal Gear Solid Remake announcement
It seems that Konami is focusing on remaking Metal Gear Solid 3 instead of their PS1 classic, Metal Gear Solid, due to series producer Noriaki Okamura stating that updating the gameplay and level design for those earlier games would be too complex and time-consuming. However, a remake of Metal Gear Solid isn’t entirely off the table; they might just be observing how Metal Gear Solid Delta performs first.
Bloodborne 2 or Bloodborne Remake
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but speculate about the possibilities given the recent news about Bluepoint Games’ unannounced live service game being cancelled by Sony. With their schedule potentially freeing up, could they be eyeing a remake of the captivating world of Bloodborne? The clamor from fans to revisit Yharnam is deafening, and even Hidetaka Miyazaki, mastermind behind FromSoftware, has hinted at it with the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, neither confirming nor denying a future Bloodborne. Whether a remake by Bluepoint or a sequel from FromSoft, one thing’s for sure – us fans will be eagerly anticipating either outcome.
The Elder Scrolls VI gameplay reveal
Even though we’re still several years from the sixth installment of Bethesda’s beloved fantasy RPG series, The Elder Scrolls VI, imagine the excitement if its gameplay was revealed before the end of this year! So far, all we have is some aerial footage showing a rugged coastline, which eager fans have been scrutinizing to try and pinpoint where the sequel to Skyrim might be set. We know it’s in production, but details about its progress remain a secret. Bethesda, could you please give us a sneak peek at what you’re working on?
The next 3D Mario reveal
Excited Nintendo enthusiasts have shifted their focus to the anticipated launch games for the Switch 2, and at the top of everyone’s list is a familiar face: none other than our beloved plumber character, Mario. Titles like Mario Kart and Zelda are expected as well, but Super Mario Odyssey, a standout game from the original Switch, left such an enchanting impression that everyone is on tenterhooks for the announcement of Mario’s next 3D adventure. We can hardly contain our excitement to learn more about its gameplay.
Hollow Knight: Silksong release date announced
It seems like a significant wait, as we’ve moved from early 2023 to 2025, and yet the sequel to the widely acclaimed platformer, Hollow Knight, remains unannounced with no release date set. Fans are now pleading for any assurance from Team Cherry that Silksong is still in development.
The next God of War announcement
As a devoted fan, I’m buzzing with anticipation as Santa Monica Studio continues to churn out games, bucking the trend of cancellations. While nothing official has been confirmed, it’s clear they’re cooking up something spectacular in the God of War universe. There’s a lot of buzz that Kratos and his crew might be venturing into ancient Egypt instead of sticking with the Norse setting we’ve grown accustomed to. The PS6 seems like the obvious choice for release, but considering it’s still a ways off, there’s a glimmer of hope that we might hear about the next God of War before too long!
A new Dino Crisis (or Dino Crisis remake)
In this situation, it’s tough to decide which game to anticipate more. Resident Evil 9 will eventually arrive, Monster Hunter Wilds is coming soon, and there are whispers about remasters for Resident Evil. Yet, survival horror enthusiasts are optimistic that the spotlight might shift towards their cherished, yet frequently overlooked survival horror title, Dino Crisis. The question remains, are new entries or reboots out of the picture for a potential Dino Crisis revival?
Halo coming to PlayStation
Microsoft’s Xbox leader Phil Spencer suggests that there are no absolute boundaries when it comes to classic Microsoft games appearing on other platforms. Although specific series haven’t been named yet, the chance of Halo potentially moving to PlayStation is a genuine possibility. The upcoming Halo game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, which some experts believe could facilitate an easier transition to Sony’s hardware. While there’s substance to these rumors, if Halo does indeed arrive on PlayStation, it would still come as quite a surprise.
Silent Hill f gameplay reveal
Excitement is building for the initial mainline Silent Hill game since 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour, which was sparked by the remake of Silent Hill 2. Announced in 2022, details about Silent Hill have been scarce. We do know that it will break away from the traditional Silent Hill format as the iconic town is replaced with Japan. However, intrigue can only last so long. Konami should reveal some gameplay to let us know if Silent Hill will carry on Silent Hill 2’s success or if it will be a bland journey like The Short Message.
Resident Evil 9 announcement
Discussing impressive runs, the Resident Evil series has been producing top-notch horror games like Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Village (both remakes and new entries) ever since Resident Evil 7. Consequently, there’s a lot of anticipation for another solid addition to the series with Resident Evil 9. There are whispers that Leon Kennedy, who used to be a rookie cop, might make a comeback as the main character in RE9, although nothing has been officially confirmed. So, we can only speculate about the terrifying twists and turns RE9 may have in store for us.
Grand Theft Auto VI release actually confirmed for 2025
Although we haven’t specified the exact release date yet, it’s expected that Grand Theft Auto will make its comeback to Vice City this autumn. The second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI might give us more information about the game’s launch, but as of now, we’re still waiting for details on when that will be.
Max Payne 1&2 remake gameplay reveal
Even though their previous games have been visually stunning but haven’t sold in large quantities, is there any studio more suitable for redeveloping Max Payne 1 and 2 than Remedy Entertainment, known for creating Control and Alan Wake? With hints dropped nearly a year ago, we’ve only seen sparse glimpses of the remake journey through Max’s grim New York City world.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor sequel announcement
It seems premature to anticipate the reveal of the finale for the Star Wars Jedi trilogy, considering Survivor’s conclusion was only a couple of years ago. Nevertheless, the curiosity surrounding the outcome of Survivor has left fans eagerly awaiting the resolution of Cal and his team’s story. When it is announced, there will undoubtedly be great anticipation for this installment.
The Division 3 gameplay reveal
2023 brought the exciting news about the third installment of Tom Clancy’s The Division, and ever since then, it’s been a waiting game for us fans. While it appears the game is yet to reach its final stages, the dedicated player base, who have stood by the series despite issues in previous games, are growing restless. A gameplay reveal could be the perfect solution to assuage their anxieties and rekindle our excitement.
Final Fantasy VII Part 3 reveal
At the close of January, it’s been confirmed that the final instalment in the epic trilogy remake of Final Fantasy VII has a completed narrative. In other words, production on this long-awaited finale is progressing smoothly. This optimism certainly doesn’t diminish expectations for Final Fantasy VII part 3 to grace current-generation consoles.
Okami sequel gameplay reveal
After more than a decade, a highly anticipated sequel to the 2006 release of “Okami” was announced at The Game Awards. Contrary to expectations, it bears little resemblance to “Onimusha: Way of the Sword.” Instead, “Okami,” with its delightful, childlike charm, offers a distinctive gaming experience that has only improved over time. The announcement of a new installment in this series, which many fans thought had ended, is truly exciting news.
The Witcher 4 gameplay reveal
It seems that as of now, there’s no definite launch date for The Witcher 4 featuring Ciri’s adventure, which might mean a long wait ahead. However, with CD Projekt Red building anticipation for this sequel, set to be released ten years after the original, as the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game yet, excitement is growing steadily. The cinematic trailer looks stunning; here’s hoping we can get hands-on with controlling Ciri soon.
Next Halo announcement
343 Industries’ transformation into Halo Studios, coupled with the announcement of several upcoming titles, has brought joy to Master Chief enthusiasts. However, beyond the fact that they will work with Unreal Engine 5, details about the style these future installments in Microsoft’s legendary sci-fi shooter series will adopt remain unclear. Nevertheless, there’s a sense of renewal, as if Halo might return to its roots, offering an outstanding narrative and exceptional gameplay.
Bioshock 4 gameplay reveal
Although Bioshock 4 has been announced five years ago, there’s still no definite release date for when we can expect detailed information about the game. We don’t know yet whether it will revisit Rapture or introduce a new setting, if it will be linear or open-world, or if it will continue to use first-person perspective. With so many unanswered questions, it’s astonishing that 2K Games hasn’t provided any updates since the big confirmation of Bioshock 4 in 2019.
