In a surprising turn of events, a classic PlayStation 1 game, originally exclusive to Sony consoles, is due for a remake next month. However, this remake will not be released on the PS5, PS5 Pro, or even the PS4. Instead, it will exclusively launch on the Nintendo Switch. This decision seems odd, given that the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to release a few weeks later on June 26. Yet, there will be no Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game. Interestingly, the game will still be playable on the console due to its backward compatibility feature, which offers a better experience than the PS4 and PS5, where the game will not be available at all.
The video game under discussion is Front Mission 3, initially launched by Square in 2000, prior to their merger with Enix in 2003, forming Square Enix. However, the game was actually first introduced in Japan in 1999, and it wasn’t until the following year that it became available in North America and Europe. As its title indicates, this is the third primary installment of the Front Mission series, which originated in 1995, but it marks the fifth overall release. Unlike previous games in the series, Front Mission 3 was the first to be distributed in North America and Europe upon its release. Upon debut, it received an 84 rating on GameRankings.
If you find the idea of a Front Mission 3 remake sounding familiar, it’s because there have been remakes for the first two games released before. Specifically, Front Mission 2 Remake was launched in 2023, followed by Front Mission Remake in 2022. The positive aspect is that these remakes initially debuted as Nintendo Switch exclusives but eventually expanded to PC and both generations of PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Given this pattern, it’s likely that the third remake will follow suit and become available on multiple platforms too.
The timeless tactical RPG is back! ‘Front Mission 3: Remake’ marks the third installment of the globally cherished series by Forever Entertainment and MegaPixel Studio. Assume the roles of Kazuki and Ryogo amidst escalating conflicts in unstable military territories. As the destiny of the region teeters, guide your colossal Wanzers and strategically navigate through intense, turn-based skirmishes.
