2006 Nintendo DS Game Returning This Year With New Release

19 years after initially being released on both the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance, the game is making a comeback for contemporary consoles and PC. To be more precise, it’s coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. At this moment, there’s no mention of its release on Nintendo Switch 2, and as of now, a specific launch date hasn’t been announced. However, the Steam page does indicate that it will be available in the year 2025.

The game under discussion is Scurge: Hive, originally developed by Orbital Media and published by SouthPeak Interactive. However, it’s important to note that the latest version of this game, which is essentially a re-release, is not being managed by these original companies, but instead by Ratalaika Games.

If you’re new to the 2006 video game in question, it falls under the category of action-adventure games. When it was initially launched, it earned Metacritic scores around the 70s. Unfortunately, following its release, no sequel or port was ever developed for it. As a result, this will mark the first time the game is accessible on platforms outside of Nintendo consoles.

In this game, you’ll step into the boots of renowned bounty hunter Jenosa Armaon, tasked with a perilous assignment. Unbeknownst to her, the mission involves retrieving a highly classified science facility on an out-of-the-way planet. The lab has been compromised by a terrifying virus called ‘Scurge,’ which has the power to enslave anything it touches. Despite Jenosa’s bio-protective armor allowing her resistance, she cannot destroy this malevolent force. To save countless lives and prevent the virus from spreading further, Jenosa must rely on her speed, her arsenal, and her intellect to contain and ultimately vanquish the vicious Scurge.

It’s puzzling why this particular game from this generation is being revived, as it didn’t gain much popularity when initially released. Given that it’s been 19 years since its launch, it’s challenging to foresee a significant market for a simple port of the game. However, for those who fondly remember playing it around two decades ago, whether on DS or Game Boy Advance, this revival will undoubtedly bring joy.
