2008 PS2 Game Returning Soon (Will Be Free With PS Plus)

The classic PlayStation 2 game from 2008 has been leaked again, this time with solid evidence of its release on both PS4 and PS5. Not only that, but the PS2 title will be available for purchase on the PlayStation Store for interested buyers. However, a big bonus for those with a PS Plus Premium subscription – it’s free to download! The initial leak occurred back in February when the Taiwanese Rating Board rated it for release, raising suspicions about its comeback. Now, a subsequent leak confirms that we can expect this 17-year-old game to return soon.

Generally, the leak of a rating board suggests that a game’s release is imminent, but the Taiwanese Rating Board often rates games well before they actually come out. Recently, there has been a leak indicating that a PS2 game will be re-released, and this has been further confirmed by leaked trophies on the PSN. This not only shows that the remake is in progress, but also hints at an upcoming release, as trophies are typically submitted for approval when a game is about to hit the shelves.

The video game under discussion was developed by Heavy Iron Studios and published by THQ in 2008. Notably, THQ obtained the rights to produce this game from Disney. This game for PlayStation 2 is none other than WALL-E, which is the video game version of the movie with the same title.

Initially, this game could be played on both PS3 and PSP platforms; however, we can confirm it’s the PS2 edition for several reasons. Firstly, PS3 games aren’t remastered through the PlayStation Classics program. Secondly, the PSP version is not a viable option because certain trophies include content that is missing from the PSP release. As True Trophies suggests, the PS2 version offers a better gaming experience compared to its PSP counterpart.

It’s plausible that this isn’t connected with the PlayStation Classics initiative but rather a standalone re-release. However, this seems unusual as most PS2 re-issues have been under this program. Notably, Disney games have been heavily involved in this initiative. If it does tie into the PlayStation Classics program, then you can expect it to be accessible for free via PS Plus Premium, alongside its availability for purchase on the PlayStation Store.

Currently, no involved parties have offered any comments regarding these leaked materials. Should this situation change, we’ll be sure to reflect it in our coverage.
