2024 Emmys: Why Fans Are Outraged Over The Bear’s Wins

As a seasoned fashion enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I must say that the Emmy Awards red carpet this year was nothing short of breathtaking! From Formiorgio Armani to Santoni shoes and DeBeers jewelry, it’s clear that these stars know how to make an entrance.

No, chef.

Although many acknowledge that “The Bear” is a highly praised series boasting exceptional talent, it seems not everyone concurred with the Emmy Awards of 2024 for categorizing the FX program under comedy.

During their opening speech, even Eugene Levy and Dan Levy jokingly criticized the peculiar classification they encountered.

In reference to the fact that the series is the most Emmy-nominated comedy ever, the actor from “American Pie” humorously remarked, “I adore the show, and I can sense some of you are waiting for us to crack a joke about whether ‘The Bear’ truly qualifies as a comedy. However, in keeping with the sincere nature of ‘The Bear’, we will abstain from making any jokes.

Despite not winning the Outstanding Comedy Series category against Hacks, the Chicago-based chef show came incredibly close to dominating all significant acting categories.

Actors Jamie Lee Curtis and Jon Bernthal were awarded for Best Guest Actress and Actor in a Comedy Series at the Creative Arts Emmys. Meanwhile, Jeremy Allen White took home the Lead Actor in a Comedy Series award, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colón-Zayas also won in their respective supporting categories.

Although numerous people believed the actors were worthy of their awards, it was the comedy classification that sparked discontent among Emmys viewers. They felt that these wins diminished the recognition given to other outstanding comedic actors on popular shows such as “Abbott Elementary,” “Only Murders in the Building,” and others.

One user expressed their frustration on X (previously known as Twitter), stating, “It’s crucial that the Television Academy revise the category criteria before next year’s Emmys, because it’s unjust for a show like ‘The Bear’ to sweep the comedy category over worthy contenders such as ‘Abbott Elementary’. The talented actors and genuine comedies involved deserve more recognition.

The audience acknowledged the exceptional acting skills of the cast in “The Bear,” as one person posted on Twitter, “Get ready for a shocking statement! ‘The Bear’ is impressive and the cast is delivering outstanding performances. However, it’s not a comedy, and if I were an actor delivering actual jokes in a real comedy, I’d be infuriated watching every award being handed out instead of me!!! #emmys

Another commenter called White “an amazing actor,” but pointed out that he “hasn’t delivered one funny line in three seasons.”
