As a Swiftie of over two decades, I can confidently say that Taylor Swift has once again proven her reign as the undisputed queen of pop at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. With her punk-inspired Dior dress and fierce woven leather gauntlets shutting down the red carpet, she set the tone for an unforgettable night.

At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards held on September 11, Swifties once again voiced their preference, bestowing the Artist of the Year title upon the chairwoman of The Tortured Poets Department for the second consecutive year. This historic victory marks her as the first artist to claim this fan-voted Moonman trophy twice in its history.
Yet, neither instance saw her performing the action, as her long-term partner, Travis Kelce, was required to return to Kansas City for his football commitments, following their passionate weekend getaway in New York, which left her heartbroken.
To the five awards she received earlier tonight, Swift added another one, bringing her total career VMAs to 29, and potentially more if she wins Video of the Year later on. Leading the nominations for this year’s event with a whopping 12, Swift started off the show by winning Song of Summer for her collaboration with Post Malone titled “Tortured Poets,” which also took home the Best Collaboration award as the first honor given during the live broadcast. At the appropriate moment before the event, she strategically positioned herself near the red carpet in a bold, punk-style dress with contrasting yellow and black high-low plaid by Dior. She completed her look with towering black boots and intimidating woven leather arm cuffs.
Approximately an hour into the performance, she left the stage and returned wearing a shimmering Monse mini dress tailored just for her, ready to fully embrace the dance-filled atmosphere. She offered Katy Perry a standing ovation and displayed the infectious excitement that we all anticipate from Taylor Swift in the audience.
She was crowned Artist of the Year, an award typically given off-stage to allow for more live performance time. In doing so, she surpassed previous winners such as Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, SZA, Eminem, and Sabrina Carpenter who were also nominated in this category.
Additionally, Taylor was honored at the Moonmen awards, taking home prizes for Best Direction (“Fortnight”), Best Pop Category, and Best Editing. This recognition was jointly received with editor Chancler Haynes for their work on “Fortnite”.

As Post Malone, who had just won the award for Best Collaboration with Taylor Swift, leaned towards her, he whispered something softly into her ear.

At the end of Karol G’s epic performance, Taylor gave the “QLONA” singer a giant hug.
The “Fortnight” singer wore a wide grin as she enjoyed the show from her seat.
At the awards ceremony, Taylor and her friend Suki Waterhouse danced together as Katy Perry performed a collection of her popular songs.
