At the age of 22, the young woman found it challenging to maintain the Moon Person Award statuette steady as she delivered her acceptance speech on stage.
Tyla, also known as Tyla Laura Seethal, shared with the audience, “Wow, you all know me well with awards. Honestly, I don’t feel quite up to the task.
Afterward, she turned her gaze towards both Halle and Lil Nas X, seeking their help, before ultimately passing the trophy over to the singer of “Old Town Road.
However, some viewers read into the moment, wondering whether Tyla handing the award to Lil Nas X over Halle was a diss while others thought The Color Purple actress was insulting the “Water” singer by not stepping in to help.
Nevertheless, both women didn’t agree with the comments and quickly clarified the misunderstandings regarding the rumors.
Tyla posted on X, previously known as Twitter, on September 11, saying ‘You all make things strange… I wasn’t addressing my friend Halle, we’re just girls’, followed by a nail polish emoji. She then wrote ‘Zip it up, I won a VMA!’
Halle responded by sharing the same message, saying “Absolutely!”, followed by a heart emoji, and also wrote “Love you all, congratulations.
2024 VMAs didn’t just belong to Tyla; Taylor Swift made a significant mark by breaking Beyonce’s record as the most awarded solo artist in VMA history. Other chart-topping artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Eminem, SZA, and Benson Boone also received major awards.
