At the 2025 Golden Globes, both Selena Gomez and Sebastian Stan received two nominations each, whereas Jeremy Allen White found himself with two commitments.
Indeed, while Nikki Glaser graced the stage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills during the 82nd Golden Globes, there were some noticeable absences, among them being The Bear’s leading actor who secured a Best Actor win. (You can find the complete list of winners here.)
Despite Jeremy outperforming Adam Brody, Ted Danson, Steve Martin and Martin Short from “The Man on the Inside”, “Only Murders in the Building” and “Shrinking” respectively, who were all present at the event, he himself was conspicuously absent.
Absolutely, the actor portraying The Bear was unavailable due to a valid reason. He’s currently engaged in filming for the Bruce Springsteen biopic titled “Deliver Me from Nowhere” in New Jersey, which prevented him from traveling to Hollywood.
Besides Jeremy, several other notable figures were absent from the event. This included Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Hugh Jackman, who is known for his roles in Deadpool and Wolverine alongside Ryan. Multiple sources report that they all chose to forego this occasion, despite the film produced by Ryan being nominated for both Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement awards.
Jonathan Bailey, who plays a key role in the musical “Wicked”, has confirmed he won’t be able to attend due to his ongoing preparations for his upcoming performance of “Richard II” on the West End, set to open next month. In an interview with British Vogue last December, he stated that all other commitments would be postponed until the opening of “Richard II”.
Additionally, notable absentees were Javier Bardem and Donald Glover, both nominated for Best Actor in a Limited Series or Television Series. Interestingly, although many of his Wicked co-stars graced the event, Ethan Slater was also absent.
Concerning the enthusiasts of actress Margaret Qualley, nominated for Best Supporting Actress at The Substance, she was unfortunately absent as her husband Jack Antonoff, married for a year, was unwell. In an interview with Variety on the red carpet, Margaret shared, “He’s not present, he’s ill.” Fortunately, Margaret’s father Paul J. Qualley was there to take his place. (Take a look at other stars who graced the event here).
Just as the old adage goes, “The show must continue,” indeed it did. Following a spectacular theatrical debut that raked in over $350 million globally, the musical Wicked was nominated for four awards, including acting recognition for both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. The highlight of the night was the new award category for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, which it won.
Ariana was nominated for her initial Golden Globe Award, falling under the Best Supporting Actress category due to her representation of Glinda the Good. On the other hand, Timothée Chalamet, who had previously been nominated three times, also received a nomination for his interpretation of Bob Dylan in ‘A Complete Unknown’. However, it was Zoe Saldaña and Adrien Brody who took home the awards that night.
And while they were missed, it’s not uncommon for stars to be absent at major events. For instance, last year Taylor Swift, who was nominated in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category for her Eras Tour concert film, attended with Keleigh Teller instead of making a red carpet debut with her boyfriend Travis Kelce. Fans had hoped to see them together, but Kelce had a busy football schedule and couldn’t make it in person.
Last year, as I was gearing up for my Eras Tour and found myself nominated for Best Original Song for “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing, I had to prioritize my preparations over attending the event. Interestingly enough, Zendaya, who won the Best Actress category that year for her exceptional performance in Euphoria, was also unable to attend due to her commitments filming Dune: Part Two in Budapest.
Fortunately, Zendaya managed to make an appearance at this year’s event, causing quite a stir on the red carpet following her nomination for her role in Challengers. What’s more, she added intrigue by donning a ring on her finger of note. Continue reading to discover other stars who made a splash at the grand occasion.
