2025’s highest-rated Xbox game on Metacritic is coming to Game Pass in a matter of days — but you’ve never heard of it

In the upcoming week, one of 2025’s highly-acclaimed yet relatively unknown games is landing on Xbox Game Pass – a title that might have slipped under your radar so far.

Despite flying under the radar until now, Blue Prince has left critics spellbound, garnering an impressive Metacritic score of 92 and being tipped as a potential Game of the Year. Some are even claiming it as the best game they’ve ever played! However, prior to yesterday, I hadn’t given it a second thought.

But all that changes now, with its official Xbox Game Pass release scheduled for April 10. With a chance to become 2025’s biggest hidden gem, Blue Prince – an indie sensation – could outshine even the well-known Balatro in terms of surprise success.

Before we delve into what this enigmatic game entails, let me share some of the glowing reviews. Most suggest you skip this text and simply play the game instead.

What is Blue Prince?

I must admit that I was unfamiliar with this particular game until yesterday, but my friend Jon from Xbox Era started raving about it before publishing his review. Since then, I’ve been captivated after watching several trailers and can’t wait to play it officially on April 10 when the Xbox Game Pass launches. From what I’ve gathered so far, the core concept of the game seems to be reaching room number 46 in a mysterious mansion. You’ll have to navigate through different rooms using limited energy or ‘steps’, which are depleted each time you enter a new area.

In various rooms, you’ll encounter distinct difficulties, hidden treasures, or advantages, along with resources such as cash, keys, and jewels that influence the player’s journey forward.

In this game, players should strategically utilize resources while unraveling puzzles and discovering unique secret rooms that offer crucial information.

The mansion undergoes a reset every day, earning comparisons to a deck-building game infused with puzzles. Many gamers invest more than 150 hours in the demo alone. At times, you might be unable to crack a puzzle because the solution hasn’t been encountered in another playthrough.

Throughout the mansion, you’ll find various tools and items that may need combining. Therefore, planning is crucial, but progress will often stall at roadblocks, making it seem like you’re approaching an end.

Will you be venturing into the mansion and seeking out Room 46 for yourself? The little-known game “Blue Prince” is quickly becoming a hot topic – now it’s time for you to find out why.

If its enigmatic gameplay or just curiosity about the buzz surrounds it, mark your calendars for April 10 on Xbox Game Pass. It promises to be an event worth witnessing. Have you tried the demo? Are you jumping in without any prior knowledge? Share your thoughts, theories, and initial reactions in the comments – we’d love to hear from you!
