28 Years Later, This Jurassic Park Line Is Still Confusing

With the arrival of Jurassic World Rebirth this summer, adding another chapter to the Jurassic Park series, enthusiasts might find themselves revisiting the franchise’s history spanning over three decades. The world of Jurassic Park, whether referred to as the original or the more recent Jurassic World, has had its fair share of highs and lows, yet it consistently captivates audiences due to its big-screen appeal.

Despite the subsequent movies released after the 1993 original, directed by Steven Spielberg, none have managed to surpass the impact and innovation of the initial film. These sequels often feature notable actors in lead roles as well as supporting cast members, but they fall short when it comes to depth, grandeur, and storyline compared to what Spielberg achieved with the first Jurassic Park movie. It’s surprising to think that the director of three Academy Awards, Spielberg himself, was responsible for the film’s first sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. There are many aspects of this film that seem to lack his signature style in a project he typically directs.

Spielberg acknowledges some fault in the movie’s underperformance, yet he wasn’t the one who penned the script. We’re not trying to place blame here (David Koepp, the original and upcoming ‘Rebirth’ screenwriter). The issue with ‘The Lost World’ lies in its failure to meet expectations set by the initial classic film, and there’s a specific scene that still puzzles fans over a questionable dialogue choice.

This Dialogue From The Lost World Is Still Confusing Jurassic Park Fans

In the scene where two T-Rex attempt to knock trailers off a cliff, Vince Vaughn shouts, “Grab onto something!” A few seconds later, Jeff Goldblum echoes him with the same line. Over the years, this moment has left fans speculating whether Goldblum accidentally said “Keep holding onto something!” instead and it was intentionally left in the film, or if perhaps there was a mistake in the script.

See for yourself in the scene below.

As it happened, when The Lost World was initially screened, other enthusiasts also paid attention to it. This scene from the movie was humorously replicated years later in a comedic MTV Movie Awards skit, which starred Ben Stiller, Janeane Garafalo, Mike Myers, and Jay Leno. In this skit, both Myers and Stiller delivered the same line, while a giant Jay Leno attempted to knock trailers off the ledge.

To this very day, a specific scene from “Jurassic Park” continues to be a popular topic among discussions in comment sections of video clips and fan forums. This flawed yet perfectly engaging moment remains captivating when revisited.

Jurassic World Rebirth will be released in theaters on July 2nd.
