Two video games originally published by 2K, namely “OlliOlli World” and “Rollerdrome”, have unexpectedly vanished from Steam’s marketplace and can no longer be bought. It’s always disheartening when such incidents occur, but this situation is particularly frustrating given that both games had highly favorable ratings on the platform. The reason for their removal is not yet clear, but it might be linked to the closure of Roll7, the studio responsible for developing these games, following significant changes at Private Division towards the end of last year. Take-Two, 2K’s parent company, announced its divestment from Private Division back in November, with the remaining assets being sold off.
Currently, it’s uncertain if the games “OlliOlli World” and “Rollerdrome” will come back to Steam at some point, or if their absence is permanent. It’s important to mention that on Steam, both games are labeled as “no longer available.” Regarding other platforms, the situation seems different. “OlliOlli World” appears to have been fully removed from the Nintendo eShop and Microsoft Store, while “Rollerdrome” is no longer available on the Microsoft Store (it was never released for the Switch). In contrast, both games are still listed for purchase on the PlayStation Store at this moment. Whether they will continue to be accessible there remains unknown, but it might be an option for those who want to download these games in the future.
In recent times, it’s regrettably become frequent to see games being taken off the market. The truth is that this industry can be quite unpredictable, and with developers getting bought out, publishers changing hands, or rights expiring, many games slip through the cracks of time. Sometimes, fans are given a heads-up for last-minute purchases, but delistings often occur without any prior notice, often in groups. This is particularly annoying during an era where numerous titles are only available digitally or have limited physical editions. Fan protests have managed to bring back some of these games; for instance, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game was unavailable for several years before Ubisoft restored it.
It’s plausible that the removal of “OlliOlli World” and “Rollerdrome” from their current publishers, Private Division and 2K Games respectively, might be just a temporary move. There’s speculation that these games could reappear under a new publisher in the future. However, neither company has provided any definitive information about this, leaving fans uncertain as to whether they missed an opportunity to buy these games. Luckily, those who already own “OlliOlli World” and “Rollerdrome” are unaffected by this situation. For now, it seems that everyone else is unable to purchase these games.
