If another major streaming platform were to acquire the distribution rights, it would be a valuable addition to their library without demanding an extensive budget. The streaming industry has become increasingly competitive over the past few years, and should Doctor Who take a temporary break, another service could easily snap up the rights in quick succession.
Previously canceled shows like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” have found a second life on different networks or streaming platforms. In the case of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Fox ended it after its fifth season, but NBC later picked it up for another three seasons until the series came to a natural end. If Disney+ and the BBC decide not to continue with their agreement, there’s a chance that “Doctor Who” could meet a similar fate.
