Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: A New Hope,” dealing with his life as one of the last surviving Jedi after Emperor Palpatine’s takeover.
Following their appearances in the established Star Wars universe, various franchise characters could thrive as lead roles in potential Disney+ series.
Bo-Katan Kryze
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about the journey of Bo-Katan Kryze, a character I first encountered in the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” back in 2012. Fast forward to live-action scenes in “The Mandalorian,” seasons 2 and 3 elevated her role significantly.
Side by side with Din Djarin, Bo-Katan seized the Darksaber and reclaimed her cherished homeworld of Mandalore. Overcoming her tumultuous past, she symbolized a new beginning for Mandalore’s people, signaling their rebirth and renewed hope.
The upcoming 2026 film titled “The Mandalorian and Grogu” is expected to wrap up the storyline from the Disney+ show. Yet, a potential spin-off series centering on Bo-Katan’s reign over Mandalore post-The Mandalorian Season 3 could offer Star Wars an opportunity to delve deeper into this captivating corner of the franchise and expand one of its most intriguing recent character arcs.
Darth Maul
It’s an intriguing thought to consider a TV series focusing on a popular Sith Lord character like Darth Maul, even though Star Wars usually concentrates more on heroes than villains. First introduced in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” in 1999, Darth Maul was portrayed by Ray Park and voiced by Peter Serafinowicz. His mission was to eliminate Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), and Queen Padmé Amidala of Naboo (Natalie Portman). Despite sustaining serious injuries in the film’s climax, Maul did not die as many viewers believed. Apart from a brief appearance in “Solo: A Star Wars Story” in 2018, where he was portrayed as a crime lord leading the Crimson Dawn, his live-action appearances are limited to one other. Sam Witwer took over the voice role of Maul in that film.
Although Maul’s time in live-action was brief, he continued to appear in animated shows like “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels,” ultimately meeting his end at the hands of Obi-Wan in Season 3. Given this, a Disney+ series centered around Maul would need to be a prequel to explain his rise as a Force-sensitive Sith Lord. This narrative, similar to Anakin Skywalker’s journey from Jedi to Darth Vader, holds great potential to captivate audiences. Just like Boba Fett in the 2021 limited series “Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett,” Maul’s popularity and limited presence in live-action Star Wars productions make him an ideal character for a villain-focused Disney+ series.
Yoda
Yoda, one of Star Wars’ best-known characters, appears prominently in both the original and prequel movie trilogies, as well as various animated series like Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. This small, green creature has been given voice by Frank Oz in live-action films, while Tom Kane takes on this role for Yoda’s animated appearances. Throughout the Star Wars universe, Yoda is a recurring figure, but his journey to becoming the galaxy’s oldest and most powerful Jedi Master remains largely untold. A live-action prequel series focusing on Yoda’s past could certainly captivate fans, although its allure mainly stems from nostalgia.
Additionally, it’s clear that Grogu, the adorable character from The Mandalorian who shares a species with the iconic Yoda, has become a beloved figure among Star Wars enthusiasts. Consequently, delving into the life history of Yoda could tap into the current enthusiasm for this younger character, frequently called “baby Yoda.” Instead of revisiting Obi-Wan, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), or other characters who have been extensively explored, Star Wars might find it more strategic to provide Yoda with a fresh chapter in their expansive collection.
The latest Star Wars spin-off titled “Skeleton Crew” is currently being aired on Disney+. Coming up next on April 22nd, Season 2 of “Andor” will debut on the streaming platform. On May 22, 2026, fans can catch “The Mandalorian and Grogu” in theaters.
