On June 6th, the following day, the live stream for this year’s Summer Game Fest will be held. Since 2021, Geoff Keighley has been hosting a Summer Game Fest broadcast each June, showcasing numerous industry announcements from the video game world. This event isn’t tied to any specific publisher or platform and usually includes a broad array of AAA reveals, indie game highlights, and sometimes appearances by console manufacturers such as Xbox or PlayStation.
As the Summer Game Fest Kickoff stream in 2025 draws near, my thoughts are turning towards what I’d like to experience during this event. This wish list includes particular game unveilings, as well as broader themes or trends that I hope will be prominently featured at this year’s presentation. Here are three specific aspects I’m eagerly anticipating in the Summer Game Fest showcase on June 6th.
1. Updates on The Game Awards’ Biggest Reveals, Like Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet
2024’s The Game Awards left me absolutely thrilled, with some incredible announcements that had me on the edge of my seat last December! Games like “The Witcher 4”, “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet”, and a fresh take on Virtua Fighter were unveiled. It’s clear that these developers value Geoff Keighley and his events, so I can hardly wait to catch a glimpse of those exciting titles at this year’s Summer Game Fest!
The three video games I mentioned, along with numerous other highly anticipated titles shown at The Game Awards 2024, are yet to reveal their gameplay and lack official release dates. If these games are scheduled for launch this year or the next, it’s inevitable that we’ll have a closer look at them eventually. Summer Game Fest could offer an ideal platform for the studios behind these games to showcase their projects, not only enhancing the event with some of its most buzzworthy announcements but also providing the perfect opportunity for us to get a sneak peek.
2. FromSoftware Shows Up With The Duskbloods or Something New
Events such as Summer Game Fest are exciting because it’s always a surprise which unrevealed games will be unveiled during the broadcast. Guessing what might be announced next, without any specific leaks or rumors, I’d venture to say that FromSoftware may have something new up their sleeves. With their recent release of the multiplayer Elden Ring spin-off titled “Nightreign” and a teaser for “The Duskbloods” at the Nintendo Direct showing off the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s clear that the studio is currently quite active.
The Summer Game Fest could serve as an ideal platform to disclose post-release content for Elden Ring: Nightreign, offer a comprehensive glimpse into The Duskbloods, and potentially reveal the release date for the Switch 2 exclusive. If FromSoftware is secretly working on Armored Core 7, Summer Game Fest would be the perfect stage to unveil it. Despite the likelihood that FromSoftware won’t have anything new to present at Summer Game Fest, I secretly hope that Geoff Keighley and FromSoftware may still have a surprise in store for us all.
3. Summer Game Fest Continues to Spotlight Indie Games
2024 Summer Game Fest’s presentation distinguished itself from previous ones by confidently featuring and spotlighting independent games as main events. Indie games like “CuffBust”, “Tears of Metal”, and “Killer Bean” were given prominent display alongside big-name titles such as “Monster Hunter Wilds”, “Sid Meier’s Civilization VII”, and “Metaphor: ReFantazio”. Although some AAA title enthusiasts might dismiss the presence of these indie games, I believe they are the heart and soul of a showcase like Summer Game Fest.
In recent times, successful video games like “Balatro”, “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33”, and “Blue Prince” have come from small, independent studios. While larger companies are often cancelling games, letting go of staff, and concentrating more on their major franchises, it’s the indie gaming world that is fostering genuine innovation and experimentation. The Summer Game Fest 2024 did an excellent job in showcasing this, and I eagerly anticipate this year’s event to follow suit.
The Summer Game Fest 2024 showcase will take place at 5pm ET on June 6.
