As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tinge of anticipation and curiosity about the future of 4A Games and their upcoming projects. The Metro franchise has been a staple in my gaming library, offering an immersive post-apocalyptic experience that few other games can match.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Saber Interactive was leaving Embracer Group in a $247 million deal, which also included Saber taking ownership of studios like Slipgate Ironworks, 3D Realms, New World Interactive, and others previously owned by Embracer. At the same time, it was confirmed that Metro developer 4A Games and Zen Pinball developer Zen Studios would remain under Embracer Group. However, Saber Interactive had the option to acquire both of these studios as part of the deal. Now, Embracer has announced that Saber will not be exercising this option.
On their website, Embracer Group revealed that both 4A Games and Zen Studios will continue under their control. Moreover, they affirmed that 4A Games is currently working on two as-yet-unrevealed AAA games. One of these projects has been confirmed to be the next major installment in the Metro series.
Lars Wingefors, CEO of Embracer Group, expressed contentment with the completion of this deal and delight at keeping 4A Games and Zen Studios as part of their group. He stated these teams and assets will serve as crucial components in our ongoing expansion. Currently, 4A Games is working on two highly anticipated AAA titles that we can’t wait to share soon.
Additionally, Wingefors extended their well wishes to Saber Interactive following the successful debut of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Notably, the game garnered over 2 million players across all platforms just a short while after its worldwide launch.
He also used this moment to express gratitude towards Matthew Karch for his long-term efforts, and at the same time, he applauded the Saber team on the successful launch of the highly anticipated sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, which will mark a strong beginning for their new setup.
It’s yet to be determined when 4A Games might announce their next Metro title or their second unannounced AAA project. Earlier in the year, the publisher Deep Silver shared a short update about the Metro game, confirming that its development is ongoing at 4A Games.
