In March 2025, during the Nintendo Direct broadcast, it was confirmed that two iconic PlayStation series – Patapon and Everybody’s Golf – would be making their way onto the Nintendo Switch. Specifically, the rhythm games Patapon and Patapon 2 will be bundled together for Switch, while Everybody’s Golf is set to receive a fresh makeover designed specifically for the Nintendo system. Essentially, Sony has granted Bandai Namco Entertainment the license to bring these franchises to the Nintendo Switch. This move, along with the release of Lego Horizon Adventures on Switch last year, could pave the way for many more exciting ports.
Besides Astro Bot, most of Sony’s prominent series lean towards mature action games. However, examining their past titles from the last few decades, there are several child-friendly Sony franchises that could thrive on Nintendo Switch. Here are five franchises I believe Sony and other potential developers should think about reviving, and even releasing on the Nintendo Switch platform.
LocoRoco
If Patapon comes to the Nintendo Switch, then it’s only fair that LocoRoco should have the same chance. Originally launched for PSP in 2006, LocoRoco captivated players with its vibrant graphics and unique gameplay mechanics that involved tilting the environment to navigate the characters through levels. It’s adorable and perfect for children, making it a likely hit on Nintendo Switch. Sony has shown appreciation for LocoRoco by including a dedicated themed level in Astro Bot, so I hope this means a revival is imminent.
LittleBigPlanet
The LittleBigPlanet game series was revolutionary in integrating user-generated content deeply into gameplay, but it’s unfortunate that Sony doesn’t appear to be developing a new installment, and it seems they’re making it increasingly difficult to play the original games from this series. If they ever decide to reintroduce these classic LittleBigPlanet games, Sony might want to consider releasing them on Nintendo Switch, given its large community of Super Mario Maker enthusiasts. At the very least, a port of Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which bears resemblance to Nintendo platformers like Super Mario 3D World, could potentially fit well on the system.
Jak & Daxter
For personal preference, Astro Bot feels overly associated with Sony, making me hesitant about its potential appearance on the Nintendo Switch. Instead, I’d be thrilled to witness a dormant franchise like Jak & Daxter receive some revival on PlayStation. Although Naughty Dog has ventured into other series such as Uncharted, The Last of Us, and “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet”, the entire Jak & Daxter series has been re-released for the PS Plus Classics collection. If a company like Sony or Bandai were to compile these games into a single package and bring it to the Nintendo Switch, I strongly believe it would garner significant interest.
Tearaway
Delving back into the creative pool of Media Molecule, the charming platformer game titled “Tearaway” was initially launched for the PS Vita and subsequently updated for PS4. Although certain device-specific aspects might necessitate alterations if it’s ported to Nintendo Switch, I firmly believe this adaptation could provide an excellent opportunity for the developers to infuse some unique Switch-centric elements into the gameplay itself. Given the popularity of cute platformers on the Switch, I strongly advocate for efforts to bring the “Tearaway” series onto the Switch since Media Molecule is no longer concentrating primarily on “Dreams”.
Ape Escape
If you share my enthusiasm for video games, you probably found the Ape Escape level in Astro Bot to be one of your favorites, and it sparked a desire within you for a new installment of Ape Escape. Unfortunately, Sony has neglected Ape Escape for quite some time now. The subtle references to Ape Escape in Astro Bot were enticing, and I can’t help but hope for a playable version of the game on Nintendo Switch. Ideally, a brand new game from the series would be released simultaneously on PS5 and Nintendo Switch, but even a bundle of the classic PS Plus versions of Ape Escape on Switch would be a dream come true. With the recent releases of Patapon and Everybody’s Golf on Nintendo Switch, I find myself daydreaming about more possibilities for cross-platform gaming.
