5 Dexter Mysteries That Are Still Unanswered

To mark the release of Dexter: Resurrection this month, we’ve taken a trip down memory lane to revisit the lingering mysteries that shroud the Dexter universe. The Dexter series has had its ups and downs, with several seasons veering off course as the original run came to a close. Dexter: New Blood, too, faced criticism for mishandling the second try at an ending, but on a positive note, it generally tied up most of the significant plot threads. Fortunately, it rarely leaves fans guessing about major details, providing some form of closure, even if not the kind they had hoped for.

Despite some lingering enigmas in the Dexter series that remain unresolved, new questions have arisen from recent spin-offs like “Dexter: Original Sin” and “Dexter: New Blood,” while others trace back to its origins. It’s possible we might find solutions in “Dexter: Resurrection,” but only the future will reveal the truth.

5) Does Harrison Have Dexter’s Dark Tendencies?

In essence, a significant portion of the initial series portrayed Dexter’s concern that his son, Harrison, might inherit his propensity for violence. Both Dexter and Harrison were marked by blood since they saw their mothers brutally murdered at an early age. Moreover, there was this unspoken fear that some genetic predisposition could be passed down to his child. The new series, “Dexter: New Blood,” rekindles this debate as a scarred Harrison reaches out to his father in search of understanding and perhaps a bond.

In this scenario, Dexter notices potential violent tendencies in his son Harrison after he physically attacks another student, who had expressed thoughts about planning a school shooting. Although Harrison’s action may be viewed as heroic by some, Dexter – with his background in forensics – concludes that Harrison was actually the one who initiated the attack. Additionally, Dexter discovers a straight razor similar to the one Trinity used to murder Rita, indicating the deep-seated trauma Harrison may have suffered at a young age.

In the end, Dexter and Harrison join forces to eliminate Kurt Caldwell, but the violent nature of their act leaves Harrison deeply troubled. A disagreement arises between them when Dexter violates his own code to kill Officer Logan. Later, Harrison asserts that he’s become this way because of Dexter, not because he is like Dexter himself. However, given his lack of formal training as a psychologist, the harm he has caused others, and hints at more violence in store for him as shown in the trailers for Dexter: Resurrection, it seems questionable whether Harrison can confidently make such a claim.

4) How Does Brian Moser Become Rudy Cooper?

Dexter’s biological brother, Brian Moser, has had a complex past. In the series Dexter: Original Sin, it was shown that he once resided with Dexter and Harry Morgan following their mother’s demise, but he was placed in foster care after exhibiting aggressive behavior. As he matured, he attempted to reconnect with Dexter by stalking him, a plot thwarted by Harry. Later, Brian transformed his identity into Rudy Cooper and pursued a relationship with Deb as a means to get nearer to Dexter following Harry’s passing.

It’s intriguing how Brian transformed into Rudy Cooper. In a casual remark to Deb, he mentioned that Rudy “died for a noble purpose,” implying that Brian might have killed this person known as Rudy Cooper. However, the details of whether Rudy had studied to be a prosthetist and fabricated his qualifications remain uncertain. The adult life of Brian Moser is still shrouded in mystery, but it appears we might uncover more secrets about him in upcoming seasons of Original Sin.

3) Does LaGuerta Know the Truth About Dexter’s Past?

Based on the enigmas presented in “Dexter: Original Sin”, it’s evident that LaGuerta harbors suspicions about Harry Morgan’s actions. She seems to be aware that Harry is hiding something concerning the NHI killer, who was later revealed to be Brian Moser. If she delves deeper into the investigation, she might uncover secrets about Dexter’s past and why he’s under Harry’s care. Since this is a prequel, it could significantly alter LaGuerta’s feelings towards Dexter, potentially influencing her pursuit of him as the Bay Harbor Butcher in the original series if she discovers the truth.

2) Did Rita Learn The Truth About Dexter Before She Died?

In the fourth season, it’s not clear how Rita met her end since it occurred off-screen. However, given that the Trinity Killer murdered another woman in a similar manner at the start of the season, we can infer that he likely killed Rita too. Since Trinity was targeting Dexter, this kill seemed more personal than his usual routine. There’s a possibility that during the act, Trinity may have shared with Rita why she was chosen, savoring the moment and making her death more gratifying for him. It could be that Rita’s final moments were spent understanding that her husband and father of her children was actually a serial killer, but unfortunately, we’ll never get to know for sure.

1) Does Joey Quinn Know Dexter’s a Killer?

Almost everyone who looked into Dexter discovered the truth about him. But Detective Joey Quinn remained uncertain. Following Rita’s demise, Quinn started questioning Dexter’s involvement and teamed up with a disgraced officer named Stan Liddy for further exploration. However, as Quinn started dating Deb, he attempted to put an end to their investigation. Still, Liddy continued digging, only to meet his unfortunate end by the conclusion of his investigation.

In the last episode of Dexter, Deb is fatally wounded and declared brain dead, while her assassin, Oliver Saxon, is apprehended. Pretending to be conducting forensic work, Dexter manages to enter Saxon’s cell and ends his life with a pen. This act of violence is captured on camera and is scrutinized by Angel Batista and Joey Quinn. Batista struggles to understand why Dexter took this action, and Dexter justifies himself by stating that he wanted to ensure the task was completed correctly. Enraged over Deb’s predicament, Quinn decides it was self-defense, and Batista concurs, allowing them both to overlook this incident.

It appears that Quinn may have understood that Dexter intentionally killed Saxon. However, the real mystery lies in whether he knows about Dexter’s other victims like Liddy. It’s tough to tell, but it seems like Quinn might suspect something and chooses not to act on it. We might get more answers in Dexter: Resurrection!
