In anticipation of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, there’s been a lot of talk about the games that could grace the console in its next phase. While Nintendo has already tapped into its roots with the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, offering access to classic games from NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and beyond, one key era seems conspicuously absent: the Nintendo Wii era. The Wii introduced many amazing titles to the gaming community, but could only be played via backward compatibility on the Wii U, which was limited by its graphical advancements. Given this, it would make sense for Nintendo to revisit the Wii for potential games that deserve a comeback and more attention in their next phase.
Previously, Nintendo has ported some Wii games to the Switch. With the anticipated arrival of the Switch 2, it seems like an ideal moment to upgrade these classic titles with enhanced graphics and gameplay. Therefore, it’s worth considering a focus on these Wii games for future updates.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
In terms of a rephrased version, consider this: The anticipated follow-up to the cherished “Super Mario Galaxy” has yet to be officially confirmed by Nintendo as a smash hit for the Switch. However, its predecessor being included in the special edition “Super Mario 3D All-Stars” bundle for the Switch has certainly sparked player excitement for this sequel. Notably, “Super Mario Galaxy 2” received critical acclaim and was lauded as an improvement over the original game.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but feel that the captivating gameplay of Galaxy 2 would leave an indelible mark on the Nintendo Switch. A remastered edition could serve as an excellent introduction to this classic title for newer Nintendo fans, who might not have had the chance to play it on the Wii or Wii U. The timeless charm of Super Mario games makes a strong case for bringing Galaxy 2 onto the Switch, offering a delightful experience for all gamers.
Wii Sports Resort
If you’re not currently humming the Wii Sports theme tune, that indicates a remastered version of Wii Sports Resort could be due.
Wii Sports Resort built upon the charm of its predecessor by introducing fresh content that truly maximized the capabilities of the Wii. The game offers various activities like soaring through the skies in an airplane, engaging in friendly battles with customizable Miis across Wuhu Island, and much more. Although a new edition would be exciting, the existing gameplay remains enjoyable and seems adaptable to future consoles. Despite the Mii system not being as trendy as it once was, it’s uncertain if the potential Switch 2 will revisit this feature. Regardless, Wii Sports Resort is a classic that many enthusiasts eagerly await to see shine again in the limelight.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
As a passionate gamer in this realm, one game that truly resonates with me is none other than “Twilight Princess” from the esteemed Zelda series (apologies for the omission, I’m referring to “Tears of the Kingdom”).
Nintendo has acknowledged the ardor for this game, as evidenced by the enhanced HD version they released for the Wii U. However, Midna and her comrades are yet to grace the Nintendo Switch beyond their appearances as trophies in “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.” It’s high time we immerse ourselves in the Twilight Realm once more on our beloved Switch console!
There’s general consensus that the title needs a modern reinterpretation rather than just an upgrade, but the 2006 game still has a striking visual appeal. Porting the game to Nintendo Switch could be successful, considering its original Wii version utilized motion controls. It’s surprising that Twilight Princess wasn’t ported to the Switch during its lifespan, especially when Breath of the Wild was popular. Previous Zelda games have shown that the company isn’t shy about exploring darker storylines, making a remaster of this exceptional title even more appealing.
Punch-Out!!!
Though the news of the potential end to our beloved boxing franchise, Punch-Out!!, has left me reeling, I’m not ready to throw in the towel just yet. After all, Nintendo has graced us with multiple installments on their consoles since the 80s and 90s. Next Level Games even took over the ropes after 2000. Sure, the last big punch was thrown in 2009’s Wii version, but Little Mac, Doc Louis, and the rest of the boxers have managed to keep the ring alive through appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series. Here’s hoping for a comeback knockout!
Modern times see fewer boxing games, yet given Nintendo’s advancements in motion control tech, it seems fitting that such games should be more prevalent. The game Punch-Out!!, not only offered a great physical workout but an engaging way for players to immerse themselves. Those who have played it would concur that the mechanics of this game would harmonize flawlessly with the Nintendo Switch line of consoles. Despite the passage of time, the gameplay remains enjoyable, and there exists a group of gamers who never tired while attempting to outmaneuver Soda Popinski or Mr. Sandman through endless dodging and punching.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
As we eagerly await Metroid Prime 4, us Nintendo fans could certainly benefit from revisiting an earlier gem in the franchise first. Many agree that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is among the series’ unsung heroes, which is hard to believe given its widespread critical praise back in 2007. Remarkably, this game’s visuals, gameplay, and music have stood the test of time, making it a must-have for a remaster on the Nintendo Switch.
A great option for transitioning Metroid Prime 3 to the Nintendo Switch would be highly beneficial, given the upcoming fourth installment. This move would serve not only as a precursor but also to underscore the distinctive capabilities that have made Nintendo consoles renowned. In its original release, Metroid Prime 3 took full advantage of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, which caused several production delays. Recognizing the skill and effort poured into this project would be a missed opportunity. Metroid Prime 3 is a game that caters to both seasoned series enthusiasts and those new to the Metroid universe, making it an excellent addition to the Switch library.
