5 Marvel Characters Denzel Washington Could Play in Black Panther 3

As a cinephile who’s spent more hours than I care to admit in movie theaters, I can confidently say that Denzel Washington is one of the most versatile and captivating actors gracing our screens today. His confirmation for Black Panther 3 has set the Marvel Cinematic Universe ablaze with anticipation.

Denzel Washington has confirmed his participation in Black Panther 3, which means he’ll soon contribute to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his acting skills. Ryan Coogler, the screenwriter and director, is still developing the script, and the film won’t hit theaters before the conclusion of the “Multiversal Saga.” However, Washington’s inclusion in the franchise suggests intriguing opportunities for a variety of fascinating characters from Black Panther’s extensive comic book background.

5 Characters Denzel Washington Can Play in the MCU

5. Achebe: The Brilliant Madman

In the Black Panther Vol. 3 #3, Reverend Doctor Michael Ibn al-Hajj Achebe is one of Black Panther’s most intricate adversaries, crafted by Christopher Priest and Mark Texeira. Originally a farmer who tragically saw his village devastated, Achebe struck a Faustian bargain with Mephisto, granting him tactical genius but at the expense of his mental stability. Notably, he seized control of Wakanda’s economy while relentlessly troubling T’Challa, showcasing that he can be as menacing with words and strategies as others are with weapons.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but envision Denzel Washington in the role of a captivating antagonist for the Black Panther series. His commanding presence and knack for portraying calculated manipulation as well as dramatic insanity would make him an ideal fit for this villain. This character could challenge M’Baku’s leadership and Shuri’s Black Panther through psychological warfare, rather than resorting to physical conflict. This approach could bring a delightful change of pace to the Black Panther films while keeping the political intrigue central to Ryan Coogler’s trilogy intact.

4. Morlun: The Ancient Hunter

In a different wording: Morlun, an immense, eternal entity that derives power from individuals bearing totems, poses a unique supernatural danger unmatched in Wakanda’s Marvel Cinematic Universe experience. This formidable adversary was introduced by J. Michael Straczynski and John Romita Jr., debuting in the 30th issue of The Amazing Spider-Man vol. 2. There, Morlun targeted both Spider-Man and his Spider totem, but he also has a strong desire for the Panther totem.

In the upcoming MCU stories delving into supernatural aspects, Morlun might act as a link between Wakanda’s technological prowess and its mystical heritage. Anthony Mackie, an excellent actor, would be fitting to portray this villain on screen. Given that Mackie has limited films left before his retirement, taking on the role of a one-off villain could be an ideal solution – or, Morlun could be a villain connecting franchises such as Black Panther and Spider-Man.

3. David Munroe: The Bridge to Mutantkind

Speaking as Storm’s father, David Munroe, I play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between Wakanda and the wider mutant community. In the comics, my career as a photojournalist in Cairo finds me chronicling the escalating conflicts between humans and emerging mutants. The tragic circumstances of my death during a political upheaval significantly impact Storm’s formative years and forge links between Wakanda and Africa’s burgeoning mutant populace.

In the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Washington might take on the role of David Munroe, delving into Storm’s backstory and the past connections between Wakanda and mutants. This could pave the way for Storm’s entry while exploring how Wakanda’s secluded policies impacted African mutants during significant historical events. Given Storm’s growing importance in the MCU and her rich comic book history with Wakanda, it seems fitting that Black Panther 3 could include Ororo.

2. Bashenga: The First King

In the annals of Wakandan history, Bashenga is considered a legendary figure. He was the pioneering monarch who managed to unite the five distinct tribes, becoming the second Black Panther following the ancient Panther from a million years ago BC. According to Wakandan folklore, Bashenga was both a formidable warrior and a shaman, receiving esoteric wisdom directly from Bast, the deity of the Panther. His enduring legacy encompasses forging the legendary sword Skybreaker and laying the foundations for many of Wakanda’s cherished traditions.

Stepping into the realm of cinematic critique, I’m excited to share my thoughts on the potential direction for “Black Panther 3.” Instead of focusing solely on cutting-edge technology, this sequel might delve deeper into Wakanda’s mystical roots and the role of its deity, Bast.

1. Blue Marvel: The Veteran Hero

Adam Brashear, famously known as Blue Marvel, is a character who blends military background, intellectual prowess in physics, and extraordinary powers. A Korean War veteran holding a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, he collaborates with T’Challa on various scientific endeavors within the comic books, all while maintaining a respected position as an elder statesman among the superhero fraternity. His personal encounters with racial discrimination in America during the 1960s mirror Wakanda’s challenges in revealing its existence to the global community.

As Wakanda poses a global danger following the events of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, it might be strategic for the U.S. to recruit Blue Marvel to manage the African nation. This move would be smart as it would allow a Black superhero to handle Wakanda and its valuable resource, Vibranium, potentially mitigating racial criticism. The character of Washington, a war veteran re-emerging with upgrades for one final mission, seems ideal for this role. Moreover, this scenario could offer Marvel an opportunity to delve deeper into their signature theme of foes transitioning into allies.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned about the progress of Black Panther 3, which is currently in its early stages of development. On the other hand, I can’t wait for the upcoming release of Denzel Washington in Gladiator II, set to hit theaters on November 22nd.
