5 Marvel Movies with Shocking Behind-the-Scenes Drama You Won’t Believe!

Speculations abound regarding the challenging nature of filming “Captain America: Brave New World.” The movie underwent extensive reshoots, with Giancarlo Esposito’s character, Sidewinder, initially not appearing at all before these reshoots. This led to an increase in budget and necessitated script revisions, both of which are known to heighten tensions on set. Moreover, there have been whispers about potential clashes between the crew and Harrison Ford. However, director Julius Onah has denied these allegations. It’s worth noting that some Marvel productions have experienced significant behind-the-scenes drama, which has not always been addressed publicly.

For a movie to qualify, it must have experienced some form of dramatic events while it was being filmed. Incidents such as the leaked footage from the set of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” wouldn’t count since that happened during post-production. Similarly, the departure of Edgar Wright from “Ant-Man” wouldn’t be considered because he left before filming began. With these conditions in place, we can add such movies to our list.

Blade: Trinity

As a passionate cinephile, I must say that after the remarkable critical and box office triumph of the initial two Blade films, the forces driving Blade: Trinity opted to amplify the film’s stardom even further. However, given Wesley Snipes’ pivotal role in making those first movies shine, he found himself at odds with the sudden necessity of sharing his screen presence and promotional materials with Jessica Biel and Ryan Reynolds.

Based on accounts from those involved in the film production, such as Natasha Lyonne and Patton Oswalt, Snipes reportedly had difficulties behaving professionally on set. He was allegedly confrontational towards his co-stars and director David S. Goyer. For example, he frequently stayed in his trailer instead of participating on set, and during one scene for an operating table, he refused to open his eyes. Interestingly, it appears that Snipes and Reynolds managed to resolve their issues for the film Deadpool & Wolverine, which even includes a nod to the turbulent production of Trinity.

Iron Man 2

Jon Favreau played an equally crucial role as Robert Downey Jr. in the phenomenal success and rising popularity of Iron Man, a collaboration that continues to this day. However, producing Iron Man 2 was quite challenging. The team, led by Kevin Feige, recognized it as a prime chance to introduce characters and storylines that would later be developed in The Avengers. Consequently, script revisions became necessary.

The sequel was hastily declared shortly after the initial movie’s success, with a release date scheduled only two years later. On top of that, Mickey Rourke expressed dissatisfaction over the significant alterations to his character, and the production encountered several obstacles in reaching completion. As for Terrence Howard, some claim he asked for equal pay as Downey Jr., which was denied, while others suggest he was dismissed because Favreau and others weren’t pleased with his performance in the first film. Either version could be true.

Fantastic Four

Regardless of future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) multiverse films, Josh Trank’s 2015 film, Fantastic Four, is generally overlooked due to its disastrous nature. The scant redeeming aspects struggle to shine amidst the mess of poor visuals, haphazard editing, and a sluggish pace that raises questions about what scenes might have been omitted.

The remade scenes in the movie are quite noticeable, particularly concerning Kate Mara’s hairstyle. Interestingly, it was decided from the start that these reshoots would include key scenes, such as the finale, which were to be shot during this additional filming time. This situation created an unusual kind of stress for Trank, and it seems that pressure took a toll on him significantly. Consequently, the movie was wrestled away from him, pieced together haphazardly, and released without any clear narrative flow.

Deadpool 2

T.J. Miller is absent from the films Deadpool & Wolverine for several reasons. Firstly, he publicly stated that his co-star Ryan Reynolds was extremely rude to him on set. Secondly, during the years 2016 to 2018, Miller encountered various legal problems, including allegations of assault, sexual assault, and falsely reporting a bomb threat.

It appears that Reynolds and Miller have reconciled, they’ve reached an out-of-court settlement over the assault incident, and the bomb threat charges were dismissed. However, it’s unlikely we’ll see him in a fourth “Deadpool” film. Additionally, Tim Miller, director of the first film, had disagreements with Reynolds on set and left the sequel, eventually being replaced by David Leitch from “Bullet Train.

Dark Phoenix

In the movie “Dark Phoenix,” an early version was submitted, but viewers didn’t respond well to certain aspects. This is not unusual for big-budget films as they often undergo reshoots to improve areas of concern. However, in the case of “Dark Phoenix,” these reshoots were extensive and resulted in significant changes, particularly in the movie’s final act.

Additionally, the reshoots for other X-Men films, specifically “The New Mutants”, were also impacted. Similar to “Dark Phoenix”, it experienced numerous delays and ended up underperforming at the box office. However, unlike “Dark Phoenix” which was released in June 2019, “The New Mutants” debuted during the COVID-19 era, making its financial failure more justifiable due to the challenging circumstances of that time.
