After a long wait, we’re almost there! The highly anticipated Nintendo Direct for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is just around the corner on April 2nd, as previously announced in January. Ever since then, fans have been eagerly speculating about what this event will reveal and what exciting surprises Nintendo has up its sleeve. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out!
In approximately a week’s time, the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is scheduled. To satisfy fans and be considered successful, here are five crucial aspects this presentation should address:
1. Release Date and Price: Fans want to know when they can get their hands on the new console and what it will cost them.
2. Hardware Improvements: Discussing any enhancements made to the hardware, like better graphics or longer battery life, is essential.
3. Exclusive Games: Revealing exciting new exclusive games for the Nintendo Switch 2 is a must-have.
4. Backward Compatibility: Clarifying whether older Nintendo Switch games will work on the new console is important to many fans.
5. Online Services and Multiplayer Features: Detailing improvements in online services, multiplayer features, or any unique social experiences would be highly appreciated by fans.
Release Date and Price
Without a doubt, it’s almost essential to find out about the price and launch date for the Nintendo Switch 2 by the time this event concludes. These details are the most pressing concerns regarding the console, and it seems unlikely that Nintendo would wrap up the presentation without addressing them.
According to existing forecasts, the Nintendo Switch 2 might debut as soon as June 2025. The cost, though, remains somewhat unclear, with estimates ranging from $400 to $500. Here’s crossing our fingers that the lower price range proves correct.
New 3D Mario Game
As a devoted fan, I’ve had a sneak peek at the upcoming Mario Kart 9, but it doesn’t quite seem like the blockbuster hit that could truly set the Nintendo Switch 2 apart during its initial phase. To ensure a stronger launch, perhaps Nintendo should consider readying another marquee game featuring their iconic character, Mario, to keep him front and center.
Hardly believe it, but it’s been close to eight years now since “Super Mario Odyssey” was first launched, marking the last time Mario embarked on a 3D adventure. Given this length of time, Nintendo could have easily created another 3D Super Mario game, ideally launching it alongside the Switch 2. Among all franchises, Super Mario is most closely associated with the debut of new Nintendo hardware, and the Switch 2 should follow suit.
A Runtime Over 1 Hour
Currently, most Nintendo events tend to run for about 30-45 minutes due to the company’s effective approach with its Direct presentations over time. However, for the upcoming Switch 2 event, I believe it would be beneficial to extend the duration slightly to provide a more comprehensive look at what they have planned.
The initial presentation for the original Nintendo Switch ran a tad over an hour and did a commendable job of showcasing both the new device and various games being developed for it. I believe that if Nintendo aims to attract potential customers for the Switch 2, they should consider replicating this format.
Promise to End Joy-Con Drift
If Nintendo aims to retain and attract more fans of their Nintendo Switch console, addressing the persistent issue of Joy-Con drift would be crucial. Joy-Con drift, a common complaint about the original Switch, has persisted for years without a definitive solution from Nintendo. This has left numerous Switch users purchasing multiple sets of Joy-Cons over the console’s lifespan, which can be quite costly.
Since Joy-Cons are expected to play a significant role in the new Switch 2, Nintendo should focus on finding a lasting solution to prevent the “drifting” problem that has been reported with previous models. Rumors suggest that this issue might be addressed through changes in how the thumbsticks are designed for the upcoming console. If Nintendo officially announces this improvement during their upcoming Direct presentation, it would greatly reassure customers about their initial investment in the Nintendo Switch.
The Next Big Switch 2 Game Outside of 2025
2025 is crucial for the success of the Switch 2, and it’s essential for Nintendo to hint at future projects for this platform. To accomplish this, they should offer a sneak peek of another significant game for the Switch 2 that will be released beyond its initial launch period.
Regarding potential games for the future, there are numerous possibilities. Upcoming sequels within series such as The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, or Super Smash Bros. could be highly favored and undoubtedly excite fans. However, whatever game it may be, Nintendo needs to demonstrate a vision for the Switch 2’s future that keeps players eagerly anticipating what lies ahead.
