5 Times Morgan Wasn’t The Smartest in High Potential S1

The unconventional lead character in High Potential played a significant role in turning the crime drama into an immediate success, however, Morgan Gillory is not without her weaknesses. Kaitlin Olson’s portrayal of the main character in High Potential has indisputably reshaped her public persona, but other characters from the fictional LAPD were equally important during the first season. The second season of High Potential promises to bring more glimpses into Morgan’s exceptional mind, and it is hoped that the diverse cast will also receive ample opportunities to showcase their talents.

Morgan played a crucial role in all 13 investigations during season 1 of “High Potential,” but she doesn’t work alone. Initially, Lieutenant Selena Soto (played by Judy Reyes) brings her on board to notice tiny details that other detectives, such as Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), might overlook. However, Morgan soon proves to be more than just a consultant and is part of the LAPD’s Major Crimes Unit alongside characters like Daphne Forrester (Javicia Leslie) and Lev “Oz” Ozdil (Deniz Akdeniz). In other words, Morgan plays an essential role in the team, not just as a single consultant.

5. Karadec Figures Out The Murder Was A Two-Person Job

Season 1, Episode 3

Despite the fact that Morgan’s innate talent for solving crimes makes “High Potential” a series worth watching, her inexperience occasionally shows. For instance, when a murder unveiled an intricate network of swindlers and money-grabbers, Morgan identified the culprit based on an atypical clue: the entry point was a ledge from a high window. As expected, “High Potential” seldom concludes a story without introducing a twist.

As Morgan is about to rejoice over another case successfully wrapped up, Karadec suddenly experiences a revelation: the murderer wasn’t acting alone but had an accomplice – a vengeful mistress who almost escaped unpunished. Just when all seemed lost, Karadec discovers the missing piece of the puzzle that ultimately brings justice to everyone involved in the “High Potential” episode 3 plot. Otherwise, Morgan would have unwittingly let one criminal slip through the cracks.

4. Oz & Daphne Discover The Vet’s Hidden Apartment

Season 1, Episode 5

Although Morgan and Karadec’s chemistry on “High Potential” is a significant factor that attracts viewers, the partnership between Oz and Daphne is equally captivating. As traditional police partners, they provide an engaging dynamic, and their investigations, although lacking High Potential Institute (HPI), are equally crucial to the LAPD’s success. In “High Potential” season 1, episode 5, it was Oz and Daphne who made a significant breakthrough in the case without Morgan or Karadec.

As a devoted fan, let me share my thoughts: It’s mind-blowing to consider that Daphne and Oz, without Morgan’s exceptional observational skills, were able to pinpoint the same secret apartment as the crime scene. This discovery by Daphne and Oz is nothing short of astonishing, serving as a powerful testament in High Potential that even Morgan isn’t infallible. Moreover, it underscores an essential truth: the LAPD isn’t devoid of resourcefulness or competence.

3. Karadec Exposes The Grieving Husband’s Secret Affair

Season 1, Episode 6

In the series “High Potential”, Morgan’s partner and counterpoint, Karadec, often finds himself overshadowed by the brilliant protagonist. However, despite this, Karadec consistently proves his worth during investigations, even when working alongside a genius. During a particularly puzzling case in season 1, episode 6, Karadec showcases the impressive depth of his traditional detective abilities.

In just a blink of an eye, Karadec swiftly identifies a small inconsistency in the woman’s statement, which ultimately suggests she was involved with the victim’s spouse. Even Selena and Morgan, who were observing from behind a two-way mirror, were taken aback not only by this revelation but also by how quickly Karadec understood the importance of her testimony. Witnessing Karadec at work undeniably solidifies his reputation as an exceptional detective.

2. Selena Makes Progress On Roman’s Cold Case

Season 1, Episode 8

The critical moment that set the entire series in motion – Morgan offering her services to the LAPD – was accompanied by an underlying condition: tracking down the disappearance of Roman Sinquerra, who happened to be Morgan’s former spouse and the father of her oldest child, Ava (Amirah J). As we learned from episode 1 of ‘High Potential’, Roman mysteriously vanished 15 years before the series started, leaving no trace, and despite Morgan’s relentless efforts, he has remained missing to this day, with local police offering no answers.

In the realm of High Potential, the enigma surrounding Roman’s fate remains unresolved, yet it pales in comparison to the remarkable strides made by me, Selena, on a decade-old, cold case. I’ve dedicated my time and resources stealthily to unearth the truth for Morgan, ultimately unearthing the first clue that began to untangle the intricate web of deceit: Roman’s former associate, Gio Conforth (Domenick Lombardozzi). It’s not often one gets a glimpse of my abilities in High Potential, but my work on Roman’s case serves as a testament to how I deserve my position.

1. Daphne Solves David’s Final Clue

Season 1, Episode 13

In the season finale of “High Potential”, tension reached new heights as multiple victims were targeted, an LAPD officer narrowly escaped death, and the series’ first recurring villain, known as “David” (played by David Giuntoli), made his entrance. The enigmatic kidnapper tormented the Major Crimes Unit throughout episode 13 of “High Potential”, but in the end, even his twisted game proved too challenging for Morgan to handle. With Oz trapped in a life-threatening situation and a ticking clock counting down, it was Daphne who rose to the occasion.

Morgan and the LAPD were stumped, but Daphne figured out the solution that had been clear all along: each riddle’s fonts made an acrostic which was the key to solving the puzzle. The team managed to save Oz just in the nick of time, making it undeniable that Daphne’s brilliant idea was a matter of life or death. Although David’s scheme in “High Potential” season 2 remains unresolved, there’s no doubt that the collective strength of the cast will eventually put an end to him. After all, Morgan’s talents in “High Potential” are insignificant without her team by her side.
