Recently, Remedy Entertainment unveiled their latest creation titled “FBC: Firebreak“. For those not familiar with the studio’s recent endeavors, this project strays from their usual genre. Instead of continuing their tradition of creating action games like “Max Payne” and “Alan Wake“, they have introduced a cooperative first-person shooter. In this game, up to three players are given the mission to eliminate the persistent Hiss threat within The Oldest House, which is the same location featured in the highly praised action game, “Control“.
Even though Remedy effectively introduces players to FBC: Firebreak, some aspects might be unfamiliar to newcomers during the initial stages of play. Given that the game immerses players immediately into the action from the start, grasping all the diverse mechanics and systems could seem overwhelming. Therefore, we’ve devised five tips for those who are embarking on their journey as volunteer first-responders in Firebreak, the Firebreakers:
1. Familiarize yourself with the game controls and user interface to navigate effectively through the world of FBC: Firebreak.
2. Take advantage of the tutorials provided at the start of the game to gain a solid understanding of the mechanics and systems in place.
3. Communicate and collaborate with your team members to ensure coordinated responses during missions.
4. Explore the environment thoroughly, as it often contains useful resources and hidden secrets that can aid you on your quest.
5. Be patient and don’t rush through missions; take time to learn the game’s intricacies and adapt your strategies accordingly.
1) Always Make Sure to Fix Any Broken Showers and Ammo Stations
In the game FBC: Firebreak, Showers and Ammo Stations are vital for player survival. Showers swiftly restore a player’s health, while Ammo Stations ensure a steady supply of ammunition for their weapons. As players venture into different zones during a mission, it becomes increasingly crucial for them to repair these essential structures. This way, they can avoid the need to search for Shelters for ammo and health, or make lengthy trips back to the beginning of the level.
Upon entering a new zone, you might encounter a group of Hiss that spawn near the Showers and Ammo Stations. This can catch players off guard, so it’s important to first deal with any hostile enemies, then address any issues with the Showers or Ammo Stations if necessary.
2) Upgrade Your Weapons and Abilities Through Requisitions and Research
When you play with others, it can be easy to miss information about upgrades and bonuses. However, after finishing each task, players receive Lost Assets, an in-game currency that can be used to buy enhancements and extras. Acquiring these advancements will make the game simpler, helping you earn more rewards and venture further into each region.
In the game, the Requisitions menu functions similarly to a Season Pass in other games, serving as the hub for players to enhance their weapons and equipment. This section is crucial because it’s where players can unlock the secondary ability (Improvised Devices) and ultimate ability (Altered Augments) for their kits. Meanwhile, the Research menu allows players to unlock various perks. Keep in mind that both upgrades and perks require Lost Assets, so be sure you have enough to spare if you’re planning on making multiple purchases.
3) Find Shelters Often
In the game “FBC: Firebreak”, establishing a shelter might appear hazardous due to the presence of hostile Hiss, but it’s an essential part of survival. Shelters aren’t just about restoring health or stocking up on ammo; they frequently house Lost Assets as well. These assets are crucial for upgrading weapons, buying Altered Augments, and unlocking perks, making them invaluable for your progress in the game.
Furthermore, Shelters function as respawn points. Consequently, once a Shelter is activated and a player perishes, they will reappear at the Shelter instead of respawning at the start of the level near the elevator.
4) Ziplines Are Your Friend
As I navigate through each Job in The Oldest House, I often come across zip lines that I can utilize for swift movement across levels. However, it’s not just about speed; these handy contraptions have an additional function as well.
Initially, it might not seem so, but various objects, such as the radioactive pearls in Job Ground Control, can be transported using a zip line. This is demonstrated by their movement at the same pace as the player. In this instance, it’s beneficial because players won’t have to endure radiation for extended periods, reducing the risk of sudden, unexplained knockouts. So, if you see a zip line, make good use of it!
5) Always Be Aware of Status Effects
One distinctive feature that sets FBC: Firebreak apart in its genre is the impact of environmental statuses on gameplay. Should a player find themselves engulfed in flames, they will continue to burn. If a burning player submerges themselves in water, they will extinguish. Prolonged exposure to radioactive materials can lead to radiation poisoning. These types of scenarios abound and can significantly hinder game progress if not properly managed.
It’s crucial for players to keep an eye on any status conditions affecting their characters, whether beneficial or detrimental. You can identify these statuses by looking at the health bar located at the bottom of the screen, which is marked with a small icon. The symbol representing the status effect is easy to understand – like an orange fire symbol for being on fire, a green radiation symbol for being irradiated, and so forth. Therefore, players should regularly check for any active status effects and address them if needed.
