The individual responsible for cleaning up after scenes on Prime Video’s ‘The Boys‘, a series created by Eric Kripke, has arguably the least appealing task among all comic book adaptations. Renowned for its shocking moments, unforeseen twists, and abundant blood and gore, the show is particularly noteworthy for its character development and relationships, its criticism of politics and nationalism, and its black humor with a dark edge. However, it’s the scenes laden with grotesque and disgusting visual storytelling that tend to leave the deepest impression on viewers and spark the most conversation.
In the upcoming Season 5 of “The Boys”, there’s a significant burden to deliver impactful surprises and end with an explosive finale. The audience anticipates a fitting resolution for the characters and their storylines, aware that the final chapter will be brimming with additional deaths and chaos. As Kripke expressed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, it’s a unique advantage as a storyteller to know when your tale is concluding, allowing you to detonate the narrative and alter the world of the show dramatically. In another conversation with Collider, he emphasized that no character or entity will be safe during the last season, making it an exciting and challenging experience for viewers, potentially offering the most agonizing and bloodiest episodes yet.
To reminisce about some unforgettable moments before the final season arrives, here’s a recap of the most outrageous scenes and biggest messes seen on The Boys thus far.
7) Robin’s Demise
In simpler terms, the shocking and violent disintegration of Robin by A-Train right before Hughie’s eyes, with only her severed hands remaining in his grasp, establishes the gritty and unsettling atmosphere that characterizes The Boys. Prior to this gruesome event, Hughie and Robin shared a tender moment of love, bantering and discussing their future plans. However, the scene takes an unexpectedly horrific turn when A-Train mercilessly tears Robin apart in a dramatic slow-motion sequence. The most disturbing aspect of the scene may not necessarily be the gory aftermath; instead, imagine being Hughie, forced to witness such a tragic occurrence so close to your person.
Robin’s demise is less impactful in comparison since Hughie has undeniably encountered much more bloodshed. A thorough washing (not forgetting a heavy-duty hose for the pavement) would easily wash away that gory mess.
6) Termite’s Sneeze
In a gruesome scene from the series The Boys, the unlucky sneeze of Termite makes an already distressing moment even more harrowing as he accidentally kills his lover, Peter. A bizarre sexual act between them ends fatally when Termite reduces himself, traverses inside Peter’s urethra, expands abruptly upon a sneeze, and tears him apart from within, leaving a massive, bloody wreckage behind.
In the aftermath, Termite’s companion is splattered across the room and a shocked Super, soaked in Peter’s blood. Butcher, Kimiko, and Frenchie find themselves navigating through the bloody mayhem as they engage in combat with Termite. Eventually, Butcher manages to trap the small-statured Super in a bag filled with cocaine. It was a tough day for everyone present.
5) Hughie’s First Kill
Robin’s demise doesn’t mark the end of instances where Hughie is splattered with blood and gore. The sorrowful Campbell is now isolated with Translucent, faced with a difficult decision: either releasing the Supersoldier who would likely lure Homelander, Butcher, and Frenchie back, or eliminating him. In the end, Hughie triggers Frenchie’s bomb that was implanted within Translucent, causing an explosion that covers Hughie, the room, and everything else in sight with pieces of Translucent.
Compared to when Termite accidentally killed someone due to a sneeze, this event stands out more because we subsequently witness the aftermath. Butcher must physically clear away Translucent’s jelly-like debris, and unfortunately, Hughie’s clothing can’t be saved from the incident.
4) Homelander’s Massacre Fantasy
Although this scene might be most fitting as the opening due to the chaos it depicts, since it’s a product of Homelander’s enraged mind rather than a real event, it suits better to place it in the middle of the sequence. In Season 2, Episode 5, Homelander tries to win over an angry crowd during Victoria Neuman’s speech, but they turn against him instead. In response, he unleashes his laser eyes, incinerating and killing a multitude of people. As you listen, you can hear the charred, injured bodies sizzling on the ground below him.
In what’s been stated, this massacre is just a figment of Homelander’s imagination. Despite his seemingly surprised demeanor, it’s clear that the superhero secretly wishes he could handle all his critics in such a way. If this incident were real, it would result in a gruesome, shocking aftermath and a traumatic experience for those responsible for cleaning up.
3) Congressional Hearing Head-Poppers
A few episodes on, a gruesome scene unfolds as heads mysteriously explode during a congressional hearing. By the end of Season 2, we discover that Victoria Neuman is the superhuman responsible, having fatally exploded several congressmen, testimonial witnesses, and spectators in the courtroom.
The scene is undeniably one of the most shocking and gory moments in the series, with brains and blood spraying around. It’s no wonder that Laz Alonso, a regular cast member, shared that they started measuring their fake blood in gallons during later seasons (as reported by IndieWire).
2) Lucy the Whale
It’s difficult to decide whom to empathize with more: Hughie, who has been deeply traumatized and is currently experiencing a severe depressive episode, or Lucy the Whale, who was cruelly killed after being torn apart and fatally wounded by the boat that Butcher steers into her.
1. Butcher’s strategy seems like a method for handling The Deep, who is positioned on the beach where The Boys are, but Lucy doesn’t deserve such an ugly end. On a grand level, the massive amount of blubber and remnants of Lucy that remain are most likely one of the largest (and most disgusting) clean-up tasks the unseen team has ever faced.
2. Butcher’s approach could be a solution for tackling The Deep, who is stationed on the beach with The Boys, but it’s unfair for Lucy to meet her end in such a gruesome manner. Looking at the scope of things, the huge amount of blubber and debris from Lucy that lingers around is probably one of the largest (and grossest) clean-up jobs the unseen team has ever had to handle.
3. Butcher’s scheme might work for taking down The Deep, who’s stationed on the beach with The Boys, but it’s harsh for Lucy to end up that way. In terms of size, the massive blob of blubber and leftover pieces of Lucy are likely one of the largest (and most disgusting) messes the unseen crew has to tidy up.
4. Butcher’s scheme might be a means for dealing with The Deep, who’s on the beach with The Boys, but it’s not right that Lucy should go out like that. In terms of scale, the huge amount of blubber and debris from Lucy that remains is probably one of the largest (and most disgusting) messes the unseen crew has to deal with.
5. Butcher’s plan could be a way to tackle The Deep, who’s on the beach with The Boys, but it’s not fair for Lucy to end up in such a manner. Considering the size of things, the massive amount of blubber and remains of Lucy are likely one of the largest (and most disgusting) messes the unseen team has ever faced.
1) Herogasm
In my own words, let me assure you that the event known as Herogasm certainly lives up to its reputation – it’s an experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone. As MM can attest, who unfortunately found himself in the uncomfortable situation of being non-consensually exposed to bodily fluids, after he and Annie had infiltrated the lavish mansion that was playing host to this massive orgy. The organizers of Herogasm, the TNT Twins, are no strangers to questionable behavior themselves, especially considering one of them secretly installed cameras in the restrooms without the knowledge of the attendees.
In this Season 3 episode, it’s not just the graphic display of bodily fluids that makes viewers queasy, but also the devastation caused by Soldier Boy detonating the party mansion during Herogasm. The energy blast from the Supes results in the unfortunate demise of the TNT Twins and multiple other Supes and humans. Cleaning up this disaster is more than just scrubbing walls, floors, and whatever else requires bleach – it’s a gruesome task that transforms what should have been a joyous occasion into a tragic and bloody nightmare, leaving behind an enormous mess.
The first four seasons of The Boys are available to stream on Prime Video.
