In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it has faced numerous formidable perils. Loki attempted to rule Earth in “The Avengers”, which eventually led to Thanos obtaining the Infinity Stones on our planet. Despite taking some time before he sprang into action, once Thanos moved, destruction followed in his path. He filled the Infinity Gauntlet with cosmic gems and erased half of existence with a mere finger snap. Although Earth’s strongest superheroes reversed Thanos’ actions, other obstacles like The Void and Kang still surfaced. But none can compare to the impending threat in “Avengers: Doomsday”.
In the upcoming team-up movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Victor von Doom is preparing for a grand appearance. Unlike previous encounters where he targeted a single planet, this time, it seems Doctor Doom has more ambitious plans – targeting the entire multiverse. While he might not need allies, there are numerous villains within the MCU who could potentially align with his goals.
1) The Leader
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Samuel Sterns, also known as the Leader, could be one of the few characters anticipating the arrival of Doom. He cautions Sam Wilson in the post-credits scene of Captain America: Brave New World, hinting at the existence of other worlds and potential dangers lurking there. It appears that Sterns is safeguarding his own world, but if Doom summons him for intellectual support, circumstances might shift significantly.
2) Red Skull
Most characters from the initial phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe who were villains have met their demise, but Red Skull remains alive and was last seen in Avengers: Infinity War on Vormir. With the Soul Stone no longer on Earth, his current situation is uncertain. However, given that Red Skull might still bear a grudge against Steve Rogers for leaving him stranded for so long, it’s possible he could ally himself with a new villain targeting the individual who now carries the Captain America mantle.
3) Helmut Zemo
Following his actions that split the Avengers in “Captain America: Civil War”, Helmut Zemo undergoes a change in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”. Instead, he teams up with Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes to combat the Flag Smashers. Despite this new alliance, his resentment towards super soldiers lingers; he secretly orders his servant to eliminate a faction of them while imprisoned at the Raft. Initially, Zemo might not be hostile towards Captain America at the onset of “Doomsday”, but the chance to obliterate an immense number of heroes could prove too enticing to resist.
4) Dormammu
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Dormammu rules over the Dark Dimension, yet he’s been inactive since “Doctor Strange”. In that film, the Master of the Mystic Arts successfully trapped him within a time loop to prevent any attacks on Earth. As a result, Dormammu ended up appearing rather foolish. Doom presents an opportunity for Dormammu to redeem himself, offering him power that would allow him to eliminate versions of Doctor Strange from various universes.
5) Yon-Rogg
In the beginning of Captain Marvel, Yon-Rogg appears as a kind mentor, heading the Kree Starforce and guiding Carol Danvers. However, this facade masks his true intentions – to exploit Danvers’ immense power to annihilate the last of the Skrulls. When Danvers uncovers the deception, she sends him away, and since then, he’s returned to Hala, the Kree homeworld, without further appearance. Perhaps a larger threat might rekindle Yon-Rogg’s resolve to confront Danvers and her allies once more.
6) High Evolutionary
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are scarcely any antagonists as malevolent as the High Evolutionary. He conducts ruthless experiments on defenseless beings, aiming to find a flawless specimen, often resulting in numerous deaths. The Guardians of the Galaxy discover his nefarious plans and manage to dismantle his entire operation, yet they don’t execute him. Instead, he’s serving time in a prison on Knowhere – not exactly a pleasant place. It would be shrewd for Doctor Doom to rescue him, as the High Evolutionary’s history could provide the blueprint for constructing a new multiverse tailored to his desires.
7) Kang
Although Marvel Studios appears to have distanced itself from Kang due to the complications surrounding Jonathan Majors’ personal affairs, there remains a wealth of untapped potential for this character. A recast could enable Kang to persist in his ambition for multiversal conquest and potentially form an alliance with Doom. Despite their differences, the two antagonists combined might achieve a decisive victory.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 16, 2026.
