7 Moments in Zack Snyder’s Justice League That Made it the Best DC Movie

As a fan, I firmly believe that among all DC movies, Zack Snyder’s Justice League stands out as the best. While might be superior in the Batman realm and Superman: The Movie may excel for Superman, none can match the epic scale that Zack Snyder’s Justice League brings to the DC Universe. Despite the DC Extended Universe, often referred to as the “Snyderverse,” not quite reaching the heights of its rival, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it certainly ended with a powerful note. To this day, Zack Snyder’s Justice League remains the only film that truly encapsulates the grandeur of the DC Universe on screen.

We had a tough time selecting only a few key scenes to highlight how ZSJL embodies the vast grandeur of the DC Universe, but we found a way to do it. After carefully examining and sorting through approximately four hours of thrilling superhero combat, we ultimately settled on seven instances that make Zack Snyder’s Justice League stand out as the top DC film.

1) Aquaman’s Icelandic Groupies

As a cinema enthusiast, if I happened upon a tale where a man miraculously emerged from the icy ocean during the harshest of winters, bearing fish to feed my starving village at its most desperate time, I’d likely view him as a divine figure, perhaps even a messiah. This is exactly the enchanting scenario that unfolds when a band of Icelandic villagers gather to witness Aquaman (Jason Momoa) return to the depths of the sea. As Aquaman’s devoted followers—his spiritual guardians—watch their celestial hero disappear beneath the dark, oceanic abyss, they break into a melody that echoes more like a sacred hymn than any ordinary song. It is through their reverence that we, as spectators, glimpse the common man’s veneration for metahumans in this extraordinary universe.

2) Wonder Woman Is Faster Than a Speeding Bullet

In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Wonder Woman is introduced in a thrilling action sequence. This scene depicts her saving a group of captives from terrorists. The entire spectacle is awe-inspiring, yet the most striking moment occurs when Wonder Woman uses her gauntlets to shield herself against machine gun fire. As the last surviving terrorist aims at his hostages, Wonder Woman sprints across the line of prisoners, skillfully dodging and deflecting incoming bullets.

In that particular scene, it’s evident that Wonder Woman is swifter than any ordinary person on Earth, despite not being quite as rapid as characters such as the Flash or Superman.

3) Gods vs. Monsters

In the extended version of Justice League, there’s a scene exclusive to the Snyder Cut, which is a flashback depicting Darkseid’s initial arrival on Earth many years ago. This scene features a younger Darkseid (then called Uxas) engaging in a mighty battle with Earth’s protectors: the Alanteans, Amazons, a Green Lantern, and various Greek deities. This grand confrontation beautifully encapsulates the awe-inspiring essence of the DC Universe.

In this particular universe, there’s no effort to rationalize Ares or Zeus as extraterrestrials who merely seem divine, like Thor and Loki. Instead, gods simply exist as part of reality. The extraordinary aspects of the DC Universe are accepted literally, unlike in the Marvel Universe where they often require explanation.

4) Barry Allen Saves Iris West

In Zack Snyder’s unique take on Justice League, there’s a charming encounter between me, as Barry Allen (a.k.a. The Flash), and my future love, Iris West. Much like how Bryan Singer portrayed mutant powers in X-Men: Days of Future Past, Snyder showcases mine by making everyone else appear slow-motioned. This creative touch results in a breathtaking scene where I rescue Iris from a near-fatal car accident, all while casually catching a flying hot dog mid-air.

5) Cyborg Plays Robinhood

As a movie reviewer, I’d say: Unlike many caped crusaders who merely dish out punches, Zack Snyder’s Justice League showcases an exceptional superhero moment where a character transforms lives without resorting to fists. In this case, the tech-savvy Cyborg (Ray Fisher) observes a struggling single mother fighting to make ends meet with meager server wages. Seizing an opportunity to truly make a difference, Cyborg swiftly hacks into her bank account, generously increasing it by $100,000. It’s a heartening scene that reminds us that heroism isn’t always about physical bravery, but often lies in the power to change lives for the better.

Through that single action, Snyder illustrates that a superhero can influence society constructively without resorting to physical violence. It’s worth noting that most superheroes function as unofficial enforcers, often bending or breaking the law under the guise of “justice.

6) Superman Solos the Justice League

One memorable moment in ZSJL showcases a powerful scene where the reborn Superman, played by Henry Cavill, squares off against a formidable alliance consisting of Cyborg, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Batman. The sheer dominance displayed by Superman leaves the notion of a superteam seemingly redundant, implying that he alone is more than sufficient. In essence, why bother with any other heroes when you’ve got Superman?

The fight scene showcases Superman’s incredible strength exceptionally well. When The Flash recognizes that Superman can keep up with him at full speed, it’s a standout moment. Barry’s expression, without a doubt, portrays his astonishment as Superman effortlessly matches his pace – a fitting response to the sheer power of the Man of Steel.

7) Clark Is Not Impressed

In a less frequently discussed scenario, Zack Snyder’s Justice League boasts its own version of “Captain picking up Thor’s hammer” moment. Just as Steppenwolf is about to deal Cyborg a blow that would split him in two, Superman steps in, taking the force of the attack on his shoulder instead. With an unflappable demeanor, Superman responds coolly to his attacker with only two words: “Not impressed.

In an incredibly impressive scene, Superman, or Kal-El, employs his seldom-used ice breath to smash Steppenwolf’s formidable weapon, making it appear as fragile as a piece of glass. It’s no wonder that Superman is renowned as the epitome of comic book heroes; Zack Snyder skillfully conveys this through visual storytelling in Justice League.
