As a hardcore gamer, I’ve just got to share some exciting news about “Evil Dead Rise“! This badass movie is now streaming on Netflix, and it’s been climbing the charts like nobody’s business. Directed and penned by Lee Cronin, this flick tells a twisted tale of two long-lost sisters who are reunited under the most gruesome circumstances – the rise of flesh-possessing demons!
If you’ve recently streamed ‘Evil Dead Rise’ on Netflix as a horror enthusiast and are seeking recommendations for your next watch, here’s some good news! We’ve prepared a list of seven films that we believe you’ll enjoy. Although they may not all share the same themes as ‘Evil Dead Rise’, these movies offer a diverse range of gory horror, family-oriented horror, and some truly exceptional choices that, if you haven’t seen them yet, are definitely worth your time.

7. [REC]
If you haven’t watched the 2007 horror movie “[REC]”, it’s high time to rectify that situation. This Spanish film, presented in a documentary style, follows a journalist and her cameraman as they join firefighters on an emergency call to a building where they uncover a terrifying virus causing inhabitants to turn violent. Trapped inside the quarantined building, the journalist and other survivors must find a way to survive while trying to understand why everyone has transformed into murderous, deranged beings. Although it has an American remake from 2008 named “Quarantine”, I recommend you watch the original version first.
6. Hereditary
2018’s movie “Hereditary” – marking Ari Aster’s first full-length directorial effort – tells the story of a family struggling with the loss of their enigmatic grandmother, who is soon haunted by unsettling and ominous events. It’s both unsettlingly scary and chillingly suspenseful, making it an excellent choice for viewing following “Evil Dead Rise”. The film also showcases Toni Collette in a truly exceptional acting role.
5. Ready or Not
Back in early 2023, it was disclosed that the film “Ready or Not” is set to have a sequel, which means you might want to consider including this movie in your viewing schedule after “Evil Dead Rise”. Originally released in 2019, “Ready or Not” features Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Elyse Levesque, Nicky Guadagni, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell. The story revolves around a newlywed bride (played by Weaving) who is unexpectedly pursued during her wedding night as part of a macabre family tradition, where her new relatives, who oddly enough worship the Devil, attempt to kill her. Despite its gory and violent nature, the film also offers moments of dark humor. While it may not share the same theme as “Evil Dead Rise”, it provides a refreshing change within the horror genre that maintains the necessary tension.
4. Battle Royale
This film is often labeled as a more brutal Japanese version of “The Hunger Games,” but this isn’t entirely accurate – the film actually came before “The Hunger Games” and indeed, it’s bloody and gruesome. The story revolves around a group of students who are compelled by a totalitarian Japanese regime to engage in a lethal battle royal as part of an effort to control youth crime. It’s extremely violent and thought-provoking, but it’s truly an exceptional movie that you should definitely add to your watch list if you haven’t seen it yet.
3. Malevolent
2018’s “Malevolent” features Florence Pugh, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Scott Chambers among others. This film revolves around a group of con artists who make money by staging paranormal activities. However, during an investigation in a country house, they find that their encounters are not entirely fake, causing each member to question their sanity. It’s subtly chilling rather than excessively terrifying, making it a suitable addition to your horror lineup as spooky season begins. A fitting companion to “Evil Dead Rise,” it offers an enjoyable watch for those seeking a bit of eeriness.
2. Drag Me To Hell
Under the guidance and co-authorship of Sam Raimi, renowned for his horror series “Evil Dead,” comes the chilling tale of “Drag Me to Hell.” The story centers around Christine (Alison Lohman), a loan officer compelled to uphold her professional duties by refusing an extension on an elderly woman’s mortgage. Enraged by this decision, the old lady places a curse upon Christine, condemning her to spend eternity in Hell. However, before she is whisked away for good, she must first survive three harrowing days of increasingly intense torment. With its blend of humor and horror, and let’s face it, Raimi’s touch, this film promises a thrilling ride you won’t want to miss!
1. Evil Dead (2013)
Instead of recommending any movie from the “Evil Dead” series, let me propose that you consider watching the 2013 reboot titled “Evil Dead,” directed by Fede Alvarez, who recently brought us “Alien: Romulus.” The plot revolves around a group of five individuals being besieged by deadites – these are malevolent demonic spirits that feed on living souls and possess bodies, giving you the chills. You don’t absolutely have to watch “Evil Dead” together with “Evil Dead Rise” as the latter can stand alone, but it would be neglectful not to suggest something from this franchise, and “Evil Dead” is definitely a good choice.
