It’s hard to believe we’ve already passed the four-month mark this year! The calendar turned over to May last week, ushering in a fresh month brimming with exciting physical media launches. Some highly anticipated titles are slated for release in May, such as a restored version of one of Disney’s most visually stunning animated films, a pair of long-anticipated medieval debuts in 4K, and a generous helping of the terrifying Jason Vorhees.
We’re listing the top 4K and Blu-ray releases coming out in May, along with convenient links to pre-order and make your purchase. Enjoy adding these movies to your personal collection!
Lilo & Stitch (2002) – May 6th
Over the past 20 years, “Lilo & Stitch” has grown to be one of Disney Animation’s most cherished productions, and it stands out as one of their films that could greatly benefit from a 4K upgrade. With its unique blending of various animation techniques and vivid color palette, “Lilo & Stitch” truly leaps out at you in enhanced definition.
We’ve had an opportunity to review Disney’s latest restoration of “Lilo & Stitch,” and it stands out as one of their finest 4K releases for an animated film. If you’re a fan, this is definitely worth adding to your collection. The release arrives just in time for the premiere of the live-action “Lilo & Stitch” this summer.

Mickey 17 (2025) – May 13th
Initially, Mickey 17 didn’t receive the appropriate response when it premiered in cinemas this year. However, luckily for fans, Warner Bros. is planning to release an exceptional 4K Steelbook edition that collectors are eagerly anticipating. With any luck, the film will experience a revival once it becomes available for home viewing.
If you missed its initial run in theaters, “Mickey 17” is the latest film from acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho, marking his return to the big screen since 2019’s Parasite. Despite modest box office performance, many viewers who caught it enjoyed it immensely, and it offers a distinctly uncommon take on science fiction that we don’t encounter often. In time, this film is likely to gain a larger following.

A Knight’s Tale (2001) – May 20th
For quite some time now, film enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting a fresh edition of “A Knight’s Tale” to hit the market, particularly since studios started enhancing films with 4K technology. However, this month promises to fulfill that longstanding desire as the genre-blending masterpiece will finally receive the physical release it truly merits.
A Knight’s Tale, released in the past, was remarkably innovative for its era, seamlessly merging medieval stories with contemporary music and narrative techniques. Heath Ledger delivered an outstanding performance in this film, which has been eagerly anticipated by many for a long time. Given its popularity, it wouldn’t be unexpected if the Steelbook edition sells out rapidly.

Jason Goes to Hell (1993) – May 20th
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’ve been thrilled to witness Arrow Video’s dominance in the Jason Vorhees domain. Last autumn, this esteemed physical media producer breathed new life into the 2009 remake of “Friday the 13th,” meticulously restoring and enhancing it. Now, in May, Arrow is set to unleash not a single but two wildly entertaining films from the enduring slasher series. Can’t wait!
Kicking off our list is “Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday”. While it wasn’t truly the “Final” Friday, this film holds a dear spot in the hearts of many Jason enthusiasts. Considering Arrow’s history with restorations, these fans are sure to be thrilled with this edition.

Jason X (2001) – May 20th
On the same day, the second of two films from Arrow’s “Friday the 13th” series is the 2001 release titled “Jason X”. This film ponders the question: “What if we were to launch an invincible slasher into outer space?
To put it another way, despite being a joke, the film “Jason X” offers an endless stream of unintended humor, which has managed to win over many viewers and build a loyal fanbase since its release.

The Day the Earth Blew Up (2025) – May 27th
Among the options listed here, this one stands out as the sole version not in 4K resolution. However, it’s a title that any enthusiast of animation should seriously think about adding to their collection.
The Day Earth Exploded” – This marks the debut of the first full-length, fully animated Looney Tunes film. Despite not raking in significant box office revenue, its release seems almost miraculous considering Warner Bros.’ recent history with the franchise. It appears to be a movie that longtime Looney Tunes enthusiasts are already holding dear, and the enthusiasm surrounding this Blu-ray launch echoes this sentiment.

Kingdom of Heaven (2005) – May 27th
Similar to A Knight’s Tale, Kingdom of Heaven has long been desired by collectors of physical media to receive an upgrade. More specifically, what enthusiasts have yearned for is the Director’s Cut version, created by Ridley Scott.
As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but express my excitement over this pristine 4K restoration that comes elegantly housed within a Steelbook. Inside, you’ll find both the Director’s Cut and Roadshow Edition of Ridley Scott’s magnificent medieval saga. Interestingly enough, it seems the press release omitted any mention of the theatrical cut.
