In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Avengers stand out as the elite group. They were the initial team established within the franchise, taking on formidable adversaries like Ultron and Loki. Yet, when Thanos emerges, even Earth’s strongest heroes can’t handle the challenge alone. Characters from various corners of the MCU unite in Avengers: Infinity War, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy. Peter Quill and his group put up a valiant fight against Thanos, but they lose Gamora during the battle. This loss deeply affects the team, and by the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, some members are considering leaving the fray.
The duo of Rocket and Groot plan to stay and establish a fresh Guardians team along with Adam Warlock, Kraglin, Cosmo, and Phyla. There’s room for expansion as well, with potential additions from Marvel Studios, drawing inspiration from characters in the comics that have yet to join the franchise.
1) Moondragon
Heather Douglas, known as Moondragon in some circles, frequently finds herself entangled in cosmic struggles due to her unique talents. She’s renowned for her exceptional telepathic abilities and the power to transform into a dragon within the Marvel Universe. At one juncture, she forms a strong bond with Phyla. Tragically losing Phyla, Moondragon then officially joins the Guardians of the Galaxy as a permanent member. The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t obligated to replicate such a dramatic event to introduce Moondragon, but it could certainly be an intriguing narrative choice.
2) Marvel Boy
A character named Marvel Boy, who hails from the Kree race and boasts extraordinary powers thanks to alien insect DNA within him, has been involved with various Marvel groups such as the Dark Avengers, Champions, and Young Avengers. However, his tenure with the Guardians of the Galaxy holds a unique charm because his teammate in this instance is Hercules. Since Hercules is already established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there may be an upcoming romantic storyline on the cards.
3) Quasar
In comic books like Marvel, if an entity chooses someone to be the Guardian of the Cosmos, they need to possess remarkable heroism. Quasar fulfills this role, demonstrating his worth through various trials. Eventually, he becomes part of the Avengers and later the Guardians, battling a variety of cosmic dangers. Fortunately for Quasar, the Quantum Bands, which are already present in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), suggest that his appearance is imminent.
4) Vance Astro
3000 years in the future, a new group of Guardians emerges, led by Vance Astro, who was previously an Air Force pilot. Waking up in an unfamiliar time, Vance transforms into a hero. He picks up Captain America’s shield and uses it during combat, feeling that the symbolism behind it remains relevant. Sam Wilson might have some objections to Major Victory handling the shield, but if his adversary isn’t on Earth, Wilson might find a way to accept it.

5) Gladiator
2024 found me marveling at a surprising crossover event on my television screen – Gladiator, the formidable warrior of the Shi’ar Empire, graced an episode of X-Men ’97! In the comics, he’s part of the enigmatic Dark Guardians, who join forces with the original Guardians to thwart the return of Thanos. If that menacing Mad Titan ever rears his head again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I can only hope Gladiator will have a chance to school him on a thing or two!
6) Nova (Richard Rider)
In the initial Guardians movie, the Nova Corps plays a significant role, assisting Star-Lord and his comrades in battling Ronan over Xandar. By the film’s end, the Nova Corps is largely depleted, but one of its members undoubtedly persists somewhere. Often, Richard Rider teams up with the Guardians to aid when the universe is under threat, and it’s clear that his MCU equivalent would do likewise.
7) Jack Flag
Special substances grant Jack Flag extraordinary powers that help him combat criminal activities. However, losing a fight results in his incarceration. Eventually, he manages to take charge of the prison and receives a visit from Star-Lord. In a close call, they barely make it out alive, leaving them with no other options but to flee together. For a short while, Jack becomes part of the Guardians. Since Star-Lord is on Earth now, there’s potential for him to meet up with Jack again.
This version keeps the original narrative intact and makes it more accessible for readers who might not be familiar with superhero terminology.
