8 Fan-Favorite Characters We Need to See in Resident Evil 9!

Ever since Capcom released the remake of Resident Evil 4 in 2023, they’ve kept their following project secret. However, whispers and leaks suggest that Resident Evil 9 might be next on the agenda, with Leon S. Kennedy as its main character. Rumors are also swirling about Jill Valentine making an appearance in RE9, but there seems to be debate about her exact role.

As a hardcore Resident Evil fan, I’m always eager to see which characters will make an appearance in the next installment of this iconic franchise. Here are some Resident Evil heroes that I believe deserve a spotlight in Resident Evil 9:

1. Jill Valentine: She’s one of the original S.T.A.R.S. members and has proven her worth time and again, making her an essential ally to have on your side.
2. Leon S. Kennedy: He’s a fan favorite and is known for his bravery in the face of danger. With his tactical prowess and quick thinking, he could be an invaluable asset in the battle against the Umbrella Corporation.
3. Ada Wong: She’s always been a mysterious figure in the Resident Evil universe, but her cunning and resourcefulness make her an ideal companion for any adventure.
4. Chris Redfield: As one of the most prominent characters in the series, Chris is a force to be reckoned with. His strength and determination make him a formidable ally against the horrors that lurk in the shadows.
5. Claire Redfield: She may have started out as Chris’s sister, but she’s since become a capable survivor in her own right. With her resilience and intelligence, she can hold her own in even the toughest of situations.

Carlos Oliveira

If Jill is returning, it would be great if Carlos could rejoin her. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him (since Resident Evil 3), and Capcom has made an effort to revamp his character in the remake. Most of these changes have been successful, making Carlos a favorite among fans. This time, he doesn’t necessarily need to be playable, but we could definitely use him to land a punch on a zombie.

Barry Burton

Regarding Jill’s old acquaintances, it seems Barry Burton has been absent for quite some time now. The BSAA Consultant was last spotted in Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Given that the final scene in Resident Evil Village depicted Chris and the Hound Wolf Squad discussing an infiltration of the organization’s European Headquarters, there’s a good chance Barry might re-enter the picture. If so, his daughter Moira could also tag along on this new adventure.

Rebecca Chambers

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel a sense of admiration for Rebecca, who truly shone in her lead role in “Resident Evil 0”. Over time, she’s been woven into the narrative here and there, but it seems she’s often overlooked among the playable characters. However, it’s heartening to know that Capcom hasn’t let her talent in biochemistry go unnoticed. She was front and center in “Resident Evil: Death Island”, which might hint at a return to the main series for this remarkable character soon.

Billy Coen

It appears that Billy, who was last seen in Resident Evil 0 alongside Rebecca, is unlikely to return to the Resident Evil series. Despite being a former Marine and potentially useful during a zombie apocalypse, he hasn’t been spotted since then. At this moment, we can’t confirm whether he’s still alive or not. However, if Billy were to reappear, even in a small cameo, it would be quite a shock, especially if we get a glimpse of him having undergone tattoo removal.

Helena Harper

Fans of the Resident Evil series don’t always take to the characters introduced in Resident Evil 6. While Helena might not be the most thrilling character from the series, if Leon returns, it would be intriguing to see what Helena has been doing. However, Ada Wong is more probable for this role. Nevertheless, we’d welcome a shift that’s as significant as Helena in the storyline.

Jake Muller

Jake, a character from “Resident Evil 6,” is another figure whose popularity among fans seems divided. Born in Europe, this son of Albert Wesker has been absent since his last appearance. If “RE9” does indeed transport players to European locales, there’s a chance Muller could become embroiled in the story and perhaps uncover more about his father during the course of events.

The Duke

In the game “Resident Evil Village,” The Duke’s appearance raised numerous intriguing queries for us. For instance, what brought him to the village? What motivated his extensive assistance to Ethan Winter? And how does such a large individual manage to move so swiftly? Frankly, we fervently hope that Capcom refrains from providing answers to these questions and instead continues to surprise fans with The Duke’s recurrences.

Rose Winters

Though the Winters saga has reached its conclusion, it doesn’t necessarily mean the family will no longer be present. Recall, she eventually becomes a part of Chris and the Hound Wolf Squad in the Shadows of Rose DLC. If RE9 takes place at a different time, she might not yet be old enough to participate, but her role could still be significant to maintain the series’ continuity. Furthermore, we are left curious about who the mysterious figure was standing at Ethan’s Grave in the DLC’s final cutscene.

As of now, there’s no set launch date for Resident Evil 9. Fingers crossed, we should get further updates about RE9 from Capcom towards the end of 2025.
