In July, the upcoming series titled “Dexter: Resurrection” will reverse a significant plot twist from “Dexter: New Blood“. Known for his intricate moral ambiguity, Dexter is an anti-hero who has left a lasting impression on television. While he’s indeed a serial killer with over 200 confirmed victims, many of these individuals were notorious criminals who would have continued causing harm if they hadn’t been eliminated by Dexter. The captivating aspect of the show lies in the moral dilemma viewers face as they grapple with the questionable actions of Dexter, especially when his choices lead to painful consequences for those close to him.
Indeed, Dexter’s actions often resulted in harm to those he cared about, leading him to conclude that ending his life as Dexter Morgan was the best course of action. In the final episode of the original series, he staged his own death by driving into a hurricane and relocating to work as a lumberjack. A decade later, in the revival titled Dexter: New Blood, cameras find Dexter living under a new identity, Jim Lindsay, in snowy upstate New York – a nod to author Jeff Lindsay’s name. However, it didn’t take long for his girlfriend, Angela Bishop, to uncover his true identity and investigate his past. If you’re reading this, you likely know that things don’t end well for Dexter.
Dexter Morgan Will No Longer Be Jim Lindsay in Dexter: Resurrection
It appears that the new series Dexter: Resurrection might find Dexter Morgan operating more openly, as he’s no longer hiding behind an alias. A panel with the cast and crew recently revealed this intriguing detail about the show. The fact that Dexter is living freely under his real name, contrary to many assumptions after the final episode of New Blood, suggests that he may not be a wanted fugitive anymore. This change could potentially extend the series for multiple seasons, but it also opens up interesting narrative possibilities.
A significant factor in this scenario is that Dexter’s long-time acquaintance, Angel Batista, reappears, and when they meet again, it is disclosed that Batista was the one who declared Dexter legally deceased and managed his affairs. However, at the outset of the series, Batista essentially brings Dexter back to life in a legal sense, allowing him to obtain a driver’s license without engaging in any questionable activities to maintain his lifestyle. Interestingly, this act wasn’t simply an act of kindness from Batista as actor David Zayas hinted; instead, the reason Batista performs this service is because it is impossible to prosecute a dead person.
Indisputably, this situation suggests Batista may be investigating Dexter with an intention to potentially arrest him. This undeniably stirs up tension and raises questions about how Dexter might react in such a scenario. While we’ve witnessed him taking down Doakes and LaGuerta, who were already hostile towards him, it’s worth noting that Angel appears to be a different challenge altogether. The finale of Dexter: New Blood hints at Dexter even contemplating grabbing a kitchen knife against Angela, his girlfriend and the mother of his son’s love interest. He’s shown a readiness to kill when required, but Angel seems uniquely complex. If these two were to engage physically, it could stir up quite a debate, yet it would be a daring narrative decision that keeps the storyline engaging and dynamic.
The revival of “Dexter: Resurrection” is set to debut on July 11th, airing its initial two episodes. Imagine how you’d react if Dexter were to kill Angel Batista. Share your thoughts below.
