Rematch Cheaters and Griefers Facing “Indefinite” Bans & Other Punishments

The makers of the soccer simulator game Rematch are becoming stricter about player misconduct like cheating, griefing, and hacking. In a blog post on July 3rd, they stated that they will be enforcing harsher penalties for rule-breakers and implementing measures to catch cheaters more effectively. For particularly severe offenses, this could lead to extended or even permanent bans from the game.

The Rematch team acknowledged an “increase in significant” instances of cheating and other unacceptable behavior, emphasizing their commitment to addressing these issues with utmost seriousness. To reinforce this stance, they revealed preliminary penalties for specific actions within the game, which may be amplified depending on the suspected player’s actions’ severity and frequency.

  • Griefing: The Rematch team defines griefing as anyone “intentionally disrupting matches by voluntarily assisting the opposing team” or scoring in their own goals. The new stated penalty for players caught griefing is a 3-day temporary ban.
  • Toxic Behavior: Any player who is found to have been participating in “abusive language, threats, or persistent harassment” toward other players will be subject to game bans lasting between 3 and 7 days based on the severity.
  • Cheating: It seems the team is adopting a zero-tolerance policy for cheaters, as anyone caught cheating, hacking, or using “any form of unauthorized software to gain unfair advantage” is set to receive an indefinite ban from the game.

Title Announcement: Our Approach Towards Cheaters, Troublemakers, and Unruly Behavior, and the Steps We’re Taking to Combat Them

In our latest blog entry, we outline our position on cheaters, griefers, and toxic players, as well as the actions we are taking to counteract them. We have already initiated bans for offenders and will remain vigilant in monitoring in-game activities. Check out the details below!

Regrettably, there’s no player report function within the game at present, but one is on its way soon. In the meantime, gamers must connect to the Rematch official Discord server to file reports against potential cheaters, griefers, and toxic players. This setup makes it more challenging to apprehend a large number of offenders. When you join the server, you’ll need to create a ticket and provide some essential details about the incident, such as:

1. The date and time of the incident
2. The username or ID of the suspected player
3. A brief description of the inappropriate behavior or rule violation observed
4. Any evidence or screenshots that support your report (if available)

  • The ID of the offending player or their profile link. Usernames are not accepted since they can be easily changed.
  • The platform on which the incident occurred.
  • Any evidence of breaking the rules you can provide, such as video clips or screenshots.
  • An explanation of the incident and a description of which rules the offending player violated.

Beyond the report feature on Discord, there’s also a dedicated Rematch moderation squad who keep a close eye on in-game actions to mete out suspensions and bans. It’s my hope that this announcement and the shift towards tougher penalties will act as an extra disincentive for miscreants, encouraging them to change their ways.

Griefing and cheating are consistent complaints in Rematch reviews and gaming forums.

User IndependentOk8498 expressed frustration on Reddit, stating that they feel scammed after spending $30 on a game, as they’ve encountered multiple speed hackers and even one who was attempting to hide their actions. They seem particularly concerned for those who purchased upgraded versions of the game, suggesting it provides an ideal environment for cheaters to rage. Moreover, they mentioned that on Xbox, cracked versions of the game operate on official servers, allowing hackers to generate unlimited copies.

A user recently posted on Reddit on July 1st, stating they encountered cheaters in about 60% of their ranked games and found the reporting system insufficient at stopping them. The cheaters have been alleged to employ techniques like causing desyncs and subtle hacks that are hard to identify as cheating, making it challenging to report them. Here’s hoping additional features and fixes will be introduced soon as Rematch prepares to roll out its initial major update for players.
