As a fan of Hellboy and the dark fantasy genre, I’m thrilled to see the latest reboot taking shape with the release of the first official still from Hellboy: The Crooked Man. Jack Kesy’s portrayal of Anung Un Rama in this image is both menacing and intriguing, perfectly embodying the essence of the half-demon, half-human character.
The upcoming “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” reboot from Ketchup Entertainment is gearing up for its premiere, with the marketing team in full swing. On their website, a fresh image of David Harbour as Hellboy, aka Anung Un Rama, has surfaced. In this still, he’s wearing a brown trench coat and carrying the signature BPRS belt buckle alongside his Right Hand of Doom. With a cigarette in hand, Hellboy appears to be hiking through the Appalachian wilderness.
The film distributor has unveiled the first authentic still from the production, supplemented by an early teaser they shared previously this month. Feel free to check out the image below.

What is Hellboy: The Crooked Man about?
As a dedicated gamer and avid fan of the Hellboy comic series, I can tell you that “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” is a captivating adaptation based on the iconic comic book with the same title. This thrilling journey takes place in the hauntingly beautiful Appalachian region, where Hellboy and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) unravel the dark secrets of a witches’ coven. The ominous presence of the Crooked Man, a chilling demonic entity that has taken residence in these lands, adds an extra layer of suspense and terror to the storyline. Mike Mignola himself penned the script for this R-rated horror film, ensuring a faithful adaptation and maintaining the gritty, spine-chilling atmosphere that is synonymous with the Hellboy universe.
Last year, Mignola shared with Variety his plan to create a horror film for the Hellboy series, expressing his excitement about this direction. After reading the latest screenplay version the previous day, he confirmed that it was indeed rated R and truly embodied the horror genre, aligning with his initial vision. Despite Taylor not having a history in directing horror movies, Mignola emphasized that both previous Hellboy filmmakers delivered works outside of this classification and failed to capture the essence of a horror movie.
He remarked, “For decades, we’ve advocated that if you’re going to create a Hellboy film, keep it compact. The ideal tale for this approach is my favorite, ‘The Crooked Man.’ I believe it’s one of the finest works I’ve ever penned. It boasts stunning illustrations by Richard Corben and possesses a strong narrative with a limited cast. Everyone was in agreement from the start, ‘Yes, let’s make that one.’ Fiscally, it’s beneficial due to its smaller budget. It doesn’t feature Hellboy’s origin or him saving the world. Instead, it offers a subtle, eerie, and folkloric horror experience.”
In the movie “Hellboy: The Crooked Man,”, Jack Kesey takes on the lead character. Joining him are Jefferson White, Adeline Rudolph, Joseph Marcell, Leah McNamara, Hannah Margetson, and Martin Bassindale. The production company behind this film is Millennium Films, and Ketchup Entertainment is slated to distribute it. Bryan Taylor, Mignola, and Christopher Golden collaborated on the screenplay.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set for release later this year.
