I have had the pleasure of observing the captivating journey of Richard Simmons throughout his illustrious career as a fitness icon and motivational guru. The images depict his evolution from a vibrant, energetic instructor in the late 70s to a charismatic TV personality in the 90s, and beyond.
Pauly Shore is remembering a fitness icon.
Days after Richard Simmons died at age 76, the comedian paid his respects on social media.
“I’ve learned just like everyone else that the beloved Richard Simmons has tragically passed away,” Pauly wrote on his Instagram post dated July 14th. “May you find eternal peace and continue shining brightly in the heavens above. Please convey my love and condolences to your dear family members, Mitzi and Sammy. You were truly unique, Richard. Your life was a remarkable journey filled with inspiration. They didn’t just make the iconic dolphin shorts when they created you – you were born that way. Rest in peace, my friend.”
As an obsessed fan, I can’t help but be moved by the heartfelt compliments the comedian recently bestowed upon me. This warm gesture arrives months after the “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” instructor publicly expressed reservations about Pauly portraying him in a potential biopic – his first social media post in over a year.
“There have been rumors that a movie about me is in the works with Pauly Shore (you may have heard),” Richard posted on Facebook on the 15th of January. “However, I want to clarify that I haven’t given my approval for this project yet. So, please take reports about it with a grain of salt.”
In the period before his passing, Richard frequently used social media. He revealed that he was in the initial stages of producing a biopic which he had given the go-ahead for, and urged his followers not to back Pauly’s forthcoming project instead. Later on, Pauly voiced his displeasure over Richard’s stance.
In an Instagram post last April, I expressed my sleepless night’s worth of tears over Richard Simmons’ tweet about his biopic project. I couldn’t fathom why he wouldn’t support this film, I mean, who else could possibly embody him better than me? Leo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt aren’t contenders for the role. I’ve got it in the bag. People already see the resemblance – we’re practically twins, both beautiful on the inside and out.
The 56-year-old man mentioned earlier expressed his intention to create a biopic about Richard, regardless of his approval, after not receiving a reply from him directly.
“Many biopics are produced without the involvement of the depicted individuals – for instance, Elvis, Stephen Hawking, Marilyn Monroe, and Steve Jobs, among others. The outcomes of these films have ranged from successful to disappointing. My upcoming production, I believe, will surpass all expectations.”
Pauly concluded his speech, addressing the deceased star directly, “I love you, Richard,” he added, carrying on my mother’s affection as well.
