Marvel Relishes Subliminal Advertising in New Deadpool & Wolverine Teaser

As a long-time gamer and Marvel fan, I can’t help but be excited about the upcoming collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine! It’s not every day that we get to see these iconic characters team up on the big screen, and the fact that they’re partnering with well-known brands like Heinz and Jack in the Box just adds to the hype.

Deadpool and Wolverine are a perfect match, like ketchup and mustard. On Monday, Marvel Studios ramped up their promotional efforts for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” announcing collaborations with Heinz for condiments and Jack in the Box for fast food. The pizza-clad Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and yellow-suited Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) have previously graced movie-inspired pizzas and special gin bottles, and now they’re completing their edible campaign with a dose of clever advertising.

In his usual skeptical tone about the murky ethical boundaries of subliminal advertising, Deadpool’s voiceover comments, “I don’t typically support this legal and moral gray area. But when it comes to my car, I make an exception.” As new footage of Deadpool and Wolverine is shown, interspersed with quick glimpses of Heinz ketchup and mustard bottles. The commercial then transforms completely into an advertisement, as the Deadpool & Wolverine logo is replaced by a red-and-yellow “Ketchup & Mustard” one, and the screen displays the Heinz slogan. Deadpool quips, “Someone’s going to face some serious legal action.”

After appearing in a humorous advertisement for Heineken Silver’s “World-Class Bubs” campaign during ABC’s The Bachelorette, Reynolds and Jackman reprised their roles from the film. Additionally, Heineken teamed up with these brands for sponsorship: Aviation Gin by Reynolds, DiGiornio, Jack in the Box, HotTopic, SuperX, Fortnite, apparel brand Homage, and Marvel Comics.

Disney is putting significant effort into the Marvel Studios film they are releasing this year, which is predicted to shatter box office records for an R-rated movie and boast the largest opening weekend in 2024. Directed by Shawn Levy, this MCU production has already surpassed Fandango’s record for highest first-day ticket sales during the year.

As a huge fan of the Deadpool franchise, I can completely relate to Ryan Reynolds’ statement about the time-consuming nature of producing and starring in one of these films. Having followed the development of the character since his first appearance on the big screen, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the return of Wade Wilson and his R-rated antics. The dedication Reynolds puts into each film is truly commendable – for him, it’s not just a job but a labor of love that consumes his life for at least two years. It’s no wonder he took a six-year break between productions to recharge and focus on other projects. However, the opportunity to bring Deadpool and another beloved character together is an exciting prospect that both fans and Reynolds himself have been looking forward to for a long time.

In this version, Reynolds and Jackman share the screen with returning “Deadpool” actors Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Rob Delaney, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, and Stefan Kapi?i. New additions to the cast include Matthew Macfadyen from “Succession,” portraying TVA Agent Paradox, and Emma Corrin from “The Crown” as Cassandra Nova. Marvel’s “Deadpool and Wolverine” will make its debut in cinemas on July 26th.
