Why Armie Hammer Says Being Canceled Was “Liberating”

As a dedicated follower of Hollywood news and a fan of Armie Hammer‘s acting abilities, I have been closely following his recent candid interview with Bill Maher where he reflects on his fall from grace and the benefits he has gained from being canceled.

Armie Hammer is getting candid about his fall from public grace.

Approximately three and a half years have passed since the “Call Me By Your Name” actor withdrew from the limelight due to numerous allegations of sexual misconduct, including rape, being levied against him. No formal charges were brought following a two-year investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. Now, Armie looks back and explains why this period away from the spotlight turned out to be advantageous for him.

Armie told Bill Maher during an episode of his “Club Random” podcast on July 14, “Being canceled felt fantastic for me. It’s a liberating experience as I no longer need to worry about how others perceive me.”

After everyone has made up their minds to dislike you, you might respond by saying, “I suppose I no longer require anything from you all. It’s time for me to learn how to be self-sufficient and content.” And then, go ahead and do that, and trust me, it will bring an incredible sense of liberation.

Currently, when someone expresses dislike towards him, Armie is unfazed. Previously, I used to crave their approval.

In 2021, several accusations were made against the former Social Network student. These allegations included claims that he entertained cannibalistic fantasies, pressured partners into BDSM role-plays in private, and even branded his initials onto a woman’s body. However, he has refuted these claims, but admitted to other questionable actions during his discussion with Bill.

Why Armie Hammer Says Being Canceled Was “Liberating”

Armie, who had been married to Elizabeth Chambers for over eight years before their separation in 2020, confessed, “I was unfaithful to my wife. I manipulated people to boost my own ego and disregarded the feelings and well-being of others. I acted selfishly, prioritizing my desires above all else, even if it meant causing emotional pain to someone else. And that is not acceptable behavior.”

When Bill inquired from the 37-year-old if he would have missed the “kinky aspects” of his sexual experiences had he not been canceled, Armie responded by sharing that he would know where his life would have taken him.

If I were in his shoes, I’d have continued living my life the same way, but deep down I knew that path could only end in one place – death.

It’s part of why he agreed when Bill called the events that happened a blessing in disguise.

As a dedicated follower, I can relate when someone speaks of undergoing significant transformations. It’s as if parts of my old self have passed away – my ego, career, and finances all experienced their own “deaths.” The Death on the Nile star expressed this thoughtfully, adding that “you gotta die” in order to be reborn anew.

Previously, Armie spoke openly about his attraction to BDSM activities, which he emphasized were consensual. He traced the origin of this inclination back to an instance of sexual abuse he suffered as a young person at the hands of a church leader.

He shared with Air Mail magazine in February 2023 that his introduction to sexuality was a frightening experience where he had no power over the situation. Subsequently, his desires shifted towards wanting control during sexual encounters.

In an interview with Air Mail, Armie admitted to being emotionally abusive towards ex-partners and acknowledged the presence of power imbalances in two previous relationships. He was a successful actor during these relationships, and his partners were younger by a decade. However, he emphasized that he had not committed any criminal offenses.

Today, he claims that his health has improved, enabling him to focus more on his kids – 9-year-old Harper and 7-year-old Ford, whom he shares with his ex-wife Elizabeth.

Why Armie Hammer Says Being Canceled Was “Liberating”

Armie reflected on the past few years during an episode of the “Painful Lessons” podcast on June 16th. He shared that he had been the one to drive his children to and from school every day, take them to their activities, and bring them back home to their mother.

He faced a significant turning point in his life, a spiritual and emotional crossroads. Put simply, he had two choices: succumb to the hardships or learn from them.
