Twisters Cast Reveal How Sequel Honors Original Movie

As a huge fan of the original “Twister” film from 1996, I was both excited and skeptical when I heard about the upcoming sequel, “Twisters.” The new movie may not have any direct character connections to the first film, but based on what I’ve learned from the recent interview with Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos, it seems that this new tornado-chasing adventure will be paying homage to its predecessor in a number of ways.

The upcoming film “Twisters” may not have a continuation of the storyline or character connections with Jan de Bont’s 1996 blockbuster “Twister,” but it will still pay tribute to its predecessor in various ways. Before the new tornado-chasing adventure hits theaters this weekend, stars Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos discussed with ComicBook the similarities between the two films.

Ramas shared with us an interesting tidbit: James Paxton, the late Bill Paxton’s son, made a cameo appearance in our production of Dorothy. It added a nice touch, reminiscent of the original film’s essence.

I was thrilled to note that, just like the classic film, Twisters includes genuine footage of tornadoes and storms in its production. This authentic addition significantly boosted the realism of the 1996 movie for me as a viewer. Similarly, Twisters effectively employs this technique.

Edgar-Jones added, “We have authentic footage of real tornadoes in our program. Our team went and filmed these tornadoes and extreme weather conditions themselves during the production.” (Or) “Edgar-Jones mentioned, ‘We include genuine footage of actual tornadoes and extreme weather in our production. Our crew captured this on camera.’ “

Industrial Light and Magic, responsible for the visual effects in this film, utilized authentic footage for the tornado scenes. In essence, they’ve advanced the tornado portrayal from movies like Twister. With current technology and advanced cameras, we can now capture closer and more intricate details. However, ILM didn’t rely solely on technology; they used genuine reference footage of actual tornadoes to create the most lifelike tornado depiction ever seen on the big screen.

As a seasoned gamer, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement when I think about my role as Kate Cooper in the game “Twisters.” After braving through a devastating encounter with a tornado in my past, I now find myself huddled behind a computer screen, keeping an eye on extreme weather conditions. But the thrill doesn’t stop there! When the chance arises to put new technology to the test, I pack up and head to the Midwest to track down those elusive twisters.

The film “Twisters” features an impressive cast consisting of Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Sasha Lane, Daryl McCormack, Kiernan Shipka, Nik Dodani, Katy O’Brian, and Maura Tierney. Lee Isaac Chung is at the helm as the director of this sequel, with Mark L. Smith providing the script. Prepare for its theater debut on July 19th.
