Longlegs and It Follows Star Maika Monroe Shares the Horror Franchise She Wants to Join

As a huge fan of horror films, I can’t help but be excited by Maika Monroe‘s expressed desire to join the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise. I remember watching the original movie at an impressionable age and being absolutely terrified of the idea that Freddy Krueger could invade my dreams. The thought of not being able to escape his grasp while I was supposed to be safe in my own mind was a chilling concept that has stayed with me over the years.

Through her roles in movies such as “It Follows,” “The Guest,” and more recently “Longlegs,” actor Maika Monroe has been making a name for herself as a favored actress in genre films. Fans have clamored for sequels to the projects she’s starred in, and Monroe expressed her interest in joining the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise. It’s been over a decade since a new installment in the Freddy Krueger series graced audiences, with the last addition being a reboot. Despite there being no announced plans for a new chapter, Monroe is now among the list of aspiring actors eager to take on the iconic role.

As a huge fan, I’d jump at the chance to join the cast of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” if given the opportunity by Collider. I first saw this movie at an age perhaps too young, and it left a lasting impression on me. The concept of falling asleep only for horrors to ensue is both intriguing and terrifying – after all, sleep is something we can’t avoid. I became captivated by the series, and if given the chance, being a part of it would be a dream come true.

In 1984, “A Nightmare on Elm Street” made its debut in cinemas, introducing the terrifying character of Freddy Krueger, portrayed by Robert Englund, to the world and spawning a new horror legend. The original film led to five straight sequels. In 1994, Wes Craven’s “New Nightmare” arrived, blending continuity with meta-commentary on the franchise he co-created. Following “New Nightmare,” fans eagerly anticipated the crossover event “Freddy vs. Jason,” marking Englund’s last portrayal of Freddy Krueger.

After the release of “Freddy vs. Jason” in 2003, the two title characters underwent reboots. The new version of “Friday the 13th” came out in 2009, featuring a fresh cast, followed by “A Nightmare on Elm Street” in 2010, with Jackie Earle Haley portraying Krueger. In the past 15 years, the production of new entries for “Friday the 13th” has experienced ups and downs due to legal disputes over the film rights from the original 1980 movie creators. Conversely, attempts to create a new installment for “A Nightmare on Elm Street” have not gained significant traction since the Wes Craven Estate obtained control of the series following Craven’s death in 2015.

Keep an eye out for news regarding the potential next chapter of “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” as Monroe is set to reappear in the upcoming sequel to “It Follows,” titled “They Follow.”
