Astro Bot is 12 to 15 Hours Long, Says Creative Director

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’m always on the lookout for new and exciting adventures, especially during the Fall gaming season. The announcement of Team Asobi’s latest title, Astro Bot, has piqued my interest with its promise of over 80 levels, more than 300 Bots to rescue, and a larger scale.

Though Summer still has some time left, Fall is quickly approaching with it, bringing along anticipated exclusives like Astro Bot from Team Asobi. This marks their first project since Astro’s Playroom and offers an expansive adventure, featuring over 80 levels, more than 300 bots to save, and a larger scope. Creative director and studio head Nicolas Doucet shared that the playtime for this game is approximately between 12 to 15 hours.

In an interview with Julien Chièze on YouTube (DeepL translation), Doucet mentioned that additional activities could add more playing time, but this isn’t the primary goal. “This game is about gathering numerous characters…However, this hasn’t been our main intent all along. We didn’t insist it must be 20 to 30 hours long.”

To create an engaging game experience, we aim for a consistent rhythm and high-quality levels throughout, avoiding any significantly longer sections or repetitive content. If necessary, the team is open to shortening the game’s duration to maintain this standard.

Doucet’s remark to EDGE magazine brings to mind their early consideration of creating an open-world game. Yet, they ultimately chose a level-based design for greater control over the game’s diversity. Consequently, players looking for a challenge can attempt Hard stages in addition to locating all Bots.

On September 6th, Astro Bot is set to debut on PS5. The game requires approximately 66 GB of storage space. Notably, Team Asobi has announced that they will provide free additional content as post-launch downloads. Keep an eye out for further information and explore our feature for more details.
