As a long-time fan of the anime world, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the return of Rurouni Kenshin to our screens. The original manga by Nabuhiro Watsuki first graced the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump back in 1994, and it’s been a staple in my anime collection ever since. I was thrilled when Liden Films announced that they would be adapting the Kyoto Disturbance Arc last year, and now that we have a new trailer, my excitement has reached an all-time high!
Since 1994, Rurouni Kenshin has been a significant character in the anime industry, making his debut in Weekly Shonen Jump’s pages as “Man Slayer.” Last year, the Battosai was reimagined with a new anime adaptation, titled “Rurouni Kenshin: The Final,” which retold the original manga’s story but gave it a fresh update. Following the first season’s success, Liden Films is planning to air another season this October, focusing on the “Kyoto Disturbance Arc.” To build excitement among anime fans for Kenshin’s return, Liden has released an intriguing new trailer, showing the original Battosai facing off against his successor, Makoto Shishio.
Regrettably, the Rurouni Kenshin series has been shrouded in controversy for some time. In 2017, creator Nabuhiro Watsuki was accused and charged with possession of child pornography. Following this revelation, several actors associated with the reboot have taken action to support the Child Rescue Coalition. Voice actor Howard Wang, for instance, announced that he would be donating his earnings from the role to the charity. He also expressed his disapproval of Watsuki’s actions by stating, “I acknowledge the seriousness of the author’s crimes and do not endorse or approve such behavior in any shape or form. Consequently, a portion of all my income derived from portraying Kenshin will be given to charity.”

For devoted Kenshin followers, Shishio stands out as the most formidable adversary that the former Battosai would encounter. Due to being abandoned and left for dead, Shishio bears gruesome burns all over his body which have never healed. However, his abilities as a Man Slayer continue to be exceptional.
If you’ve missed out on the recent anime adaptation based on Battosai’s story, Rurouni Kenshin’s first season is available to watch on Crunchyroll. Here’s a description of the series from the streaming service:
