The Rings of Power Season 2's Shocking Opening Scene Revealed by Showrunners

As a long-time Lord of the Rings fan and avid gamer, I am beyond excited for the upcoming second season of The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video. The recent revelation that we will be opening with an assassination attempt on Sauron by his trusted advisor Adar has me on the edge of my seat!

Get ready for the upcoming second season of “The Rings of Power” by Amazon! The producers have shared an intriguing sneak peek into its opening sequence, which is expected to leave many devoted “Lord of the Rings” fans in awe.

As a dedicated fan, I’d describe it this way: In the depths of darkness, an orc enters the scene, and thousands more follow behind him. The showrunner, Patrick McKay, unveiled to Total Film that this orc is about to be crowned, ready to present his grand vision for Middle-earth. Just as the crown touches his head, his trusted advisor, Adar, betrays him with a sudden and deadly strike from the upside-down crown. This chilling moment marks the assassination of Sauron.

In simpler terms, “The Rings of Power” series is adding more information to J.R.R. Tolkien’s stories about Sauron’s battles with Adar. Adar is the originator of the orcs (Uruks), and in Season 2, Sam Hazeldine portrays Adar, replacing Joseph Mawle in this role. The second season’s plot will reportedly explore significant aspects of orc existence.

At the start of the new season, Adar finds himself pondering the meaning of his existence as he is uncertain about his next steps. He has accomplished his initial goals – taking care of these children and providing them with homes. However, this achievement leaves him questioning what comes next. Despite facing imminent attacks, Adar’s personal growth sets the stage for his journey in season 2.

The actor explained that Adar is taking actions to protect them from destruction, be it from Sauron who views them as disposable, or from the elves.

In the first season of The Rings of Power, viewers were tricked into believing that Adar and his orc conquests in the Southlands represented the return of Sauron. However, this second season opening flashback will clarify the misunderstanding, revealing how Sauron covertly raised dark creatures as part of Morgoth’s legacy. This development will showcase how Sauron began influencing Middle-earth and its people by spreading innovative ideas that eventually led to the creation of the Rings of Power.

Starting off Season 2 by examining the crucial turning point between Adar and Sauron serves two purposes for “The Rings of Power” audience. Firstly, it caters to Tolkien fans’ desires, providing them with engaging content that feels significant to the original stories. Secondly, this scene sets the stage for Sauron becoming a more prominent figure in Season 2, following his initial reveal.

From the start, Sauron plays a pivotal role, McKay explained. The production features a large cast, but the spotlight is gradually shifting toward him as he takes control of the situation.
