As a dedicated fan, I’d describe it this way: In the depths of darkness, an orc enters the scene, and thousands more follow behind him. The showrunner, Patrick McKay, unveiled to Total Film that this orc is about to be crowned, ready to present his grand vision for Middle-earth. Just as the crown touches his head, his trusted advisor, Adar, betrays him with a sudden and deadly strike from the upside-down crown. This chilling moment marks the assassination of Sauron.
In simpler terms, “The Rings of Power” series is adding more information to J.R.R. Tolkien’s stories about Sauron’s battles with Adar. Adar is the originator of the orcs (Uruks), and in Season 2, Sam Hazeldine portrays Adar, replacing Joseph Mawle in this role. The second season’s plot will reportedly explore significant aspects of orc existence.
At the start of the new season, Adar finds himself pondering the meaning of his existence as he is uncertain about his next steps. Starting off Season 2 by examining the crucial turning point between Adar and Sauron serves two purposes for “The Rings of Power” audience. Firstly, it caters to Tolkien fans’ desires, providing them with engaging content that feels significant to the original stories. Secondly, this scene sets the stage for Sauron becoming a more prominent figure in Season 2, following his initial reveal.
