As a devoted fan of the Duffer Brothers‘ work and someone who has been hooked on their unique brand of storytelling since the premiere of “Stranger Things,” I couldn’t be more excited about their latest project, “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.” The fact that they are teaming up with the talented Haley Z. Boston, whose writing is described as twisted, terrifying, funny, and just… very Haley, only adds to my anticipation.
A disturbing new wedding-themed horror series is in the works at Netflix, produced by Matt and Ross Duffer of “Stranger Things” fame. Haley Z. Boston, who has written for “Brand New Cherry Flavor” and “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities,” will pen the script. The Duffer brothers’ production company, Upside Down Pictures, is involved in this project as part of their deal with Netflix, which was signed in 2022.
The Duffer Brothers were taken aback when they initially read Haley’s script. Her unique voice as a writer is a fresh blend of terror, humor, and the unexpected – it’s distinctively Haley. We’re thrilled to be working on her debut project and can’t wait to unveil her creative perspective to the world.
As a gamer, I’m excited to share that I get to work with Netflix’s VP of Scripted Series for US and Canada, Peter Friedlander, once again. This time, it’s with the talented team of Matt, Ross, and Hilary, to transform their captivating and eerie story into a breathtaking experience, all under Haley’s brilliant and gripping direction.
As a gamer, I’d describe it like this: “In the role of a soon-to-be married couple, I find myself engulfed in an ominous horror experience set at our wedding preparations. The title itself hints at something sinister lurking in the days leading up to our big day, and I can’t help but sense danger looming.”
Andrea Sperling, the executive producer of “A Murder at the End of the World,” also holds the same position, along with being the showrunner. Previously, Boston worked as an executive story editor on “Hunters” for Amazon Prime Video and was a staff writer for the Netflix limited series “Brand New Cherry Flavor,” featuring Rosa Salazar. Recently, she penned and directed the short film titled “Beach Logs Kill.”
Upside Down Pictures, the production company behind “Stranger Things” by the Duffer brothers, has announced their latest projects. Following the final season of “Stranger Things,” there will be a live-action spinoff series, an animated version of “Stranger Things,” a new sci-fi mystery series titled “The Boroughs,” created by the Duffers and developers of “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. Additionally, Upside Down Pictures is developing a live-action adaptation of “Death Note” and a streaming series based on Stephen King and Peter Straub’s novel “The Talisman.”
