How The Acolyte Finale Set Up One of the Most Controversial Star Wars Storylines

As a dedicated fan of Star Wars, I was absolutely blown away by the connections drawn between the new series, The Acolyte, and the beloved Skywalker Saga in its finale. This intricate web of Force-wielding lore left me feeling both excited and fulfilled.

Caution: This article reveals significant plot points from Star Wars: The Acolyte’s first season. Proceed with caution if you prefer avoiding spoilers…

In the initial scene of The Acolyte‘s final episode, Osha and Qimir make their way to a ship with the intention of locating Mae. As they depart, a mysterious, aged alien in a dark cloak is hidden in a cave, observing them from the shadows. This enigmatic being is none other than Darth Plagueis, who later gains control over Sheeve Palpatine as his apprentice and ultimate master in the Sith Order.

Plagueis spent his entire life preoccupied with the pursuit of eternal life. He ultimately met his end, yet this obsession was inherited by Palpatine, who effectively utilized the knowledge gained. In “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” it’s unveiled that Palpatine didn’t perish at the hands of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader; instead, he managed to persist through multiple cloned bodies.

Mae and Osha originated from a powerful and enigmatic concentration of the Force, which became the foundation for their existence. This discovery provided Plagueis with valuable insights, leading him to explore and study such Force concentrations, eventually in collaboration with Palpatine.

In “The Rise of Skywalker,” Palpatine makes an appearance (even the deceased have something to say!) and is discovered residing on Exegol. This planet was rumored to be connected to at least one Sith sect, known as the Vergeans. Consequently, centuries later, his apprentice could have been employing similar techniques used by Plagueis for creating life through a vergence, carrying on his mentor’s legacy.

During the era of The High Republic, the story of “Star Wars: The Acolyte” unfolds with an intriguing exploration of a series of enigmatic crimes. In this thrilling tale, a Jedi master finds himself at odds with his former apprentice in a desperate bid to expose the truth behind these mysterious events. As they delve deeper into the situation, their journey grows increasingly ominous, revealing darker aspects than either had anticipated.

Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss are the main actors in this show. The premiere of Star Wars: The Acolyte took place on Disney+ on June 4th.
