Batman and Robin: Year One Announced from Mark Waid and Chris Samnee

As a longtime fan of Batman and Robin, I’m absolutely thrilled to hear that DC is releasing a new maxiseries titled “Batman and Robin: Year One.” The early days of Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson’s partnership have always intrigued me, and this new series promises to delve deeper into their unlikely friendship and the challenges they face both as superheroes and as father and son.

DC is set to give a fresh take on the beginning of Batman and Robin’s team-up. Officially announced on Wednesday, “Batman and Robin: Year One” is a new twelve-issue series from writer Mark Waid and artist Chris Samnee. This project focuses on Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson’s early days as crime-fighting partners and as a father-son duo. Waid and Samnee have previously worked together on successful runs for Marvel, such as “Black Widow” and “Daredevil.” Issue #1 of “Batman and Robin: Year One” will be available at comic book retailers on October 16th. The cover art is by Chris Samnee, with variant covers provided by Mikel Janín, Matteo Scalera, Karl Kerschl (1:25), and Lee Weeks (1:50).

In an interview, Waid shared that although Batman and Robin take center stage in this narrative, it isn’t essentially a Batman/Robin story. Instead, it’s more about Bruce and Dick’s relationship. Set just a month or two after Bruce adopted Dick, Bruce realizes he’s clueless about raising a child of that age. He never had a father figure at that point in his life, and nothing from his past prepares him for this new role. Even Alfred, wise as he is, isn’t overly experienced in this area.

What Is Batman and Robin: Year One About?

In “Batman and Robin: Year One,” as Bruce Wayne adapts to raising adopted son Dick Grayson, a new criminal mastermind named the General emerges in Gotham, aiming to seize control by sabotaging other gangs. However, what is his link to Two-Face? Batman and his fresh partner, Robin, are on a mission to uncover the truth, yet they must balance their roles as father and son and crime-fighting team. Dick Grayson’s present and future remain uncertain!
