Marvel Announces Iron Man Series From Pulitzer Prize Winner Spencer Ackerman

As a seasoned gamer and longtime comic book fan, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming new Iron Man series by Spencer Ackerman and Julius Ohta! Having followed Tony Stark’s journey since his early appearances in the Marvel Universe, it’s both thrilling and intriguing to see a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist like Ackerman step into the writer’s seat.

Gerry Duggan’s run on “Invincible Iron Man” has concluded, and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Spencer Ackerman and artist Julius Ohta are set to take over the “Iron Man” series. Marvel confirmed this in an official announcement, following earlier hints given in issue #20.)

In October, issue #1 of Iron Man by Spencer Ackerman and Julius Ohta hits the stands, marking Ackerman’s first work for Marvel Comics. Following the conclusion of Invincible Iron Man #20, Tony Stark regains control of Stark Unlimited, but old adversaries Roxxon and A.IM reappear, compelling Stark to construct a new armor, the “Improvised Iron Man,” which is unlike any other in his 60-year career. Marvel Comics is also hinting at the arrival of a fresh Iron Monger character.

Marvel teases the return of the West Coast Avengers

In issue #20 of “Invincible Iron Man,” Tony Stark focuses on wrapping up various matters, such as Feilong’s detainment in Arakko and his marriage to Emma Frost. However, the story concludes with Tony traveling to a Stark Industries warehouse in western Los Angeles. Through clairvoyant stock market tips from Emma, Tony receives a substantial financial windfall, which he uses to purchase an airfield. Alongside James “Rhodey” Rhodes, they are reviving the West Coast Avengers.

While Iron Man hasn’t made any formal declarations as of now, but he does reveal that the West Coast Avengers will be forming soon. According to Iron Man’s thoughts as he and War Machine take off to intercept a falling missile, “We might just be setting up the West Coast Avengers.” However, keep it under wraps for the time being.

What is Spencer Ackerman’s Iron Man series about?

After taking back full ownership of his corporation, tech, and self-assurance, Tony Stark is more resolved than ever to avoid hitting rock bottom once more. Confronted by old adversaries such as Roxxon and A.I.M., he is prepared to engage in battle with renewed vigor, employing underhanded tactics if necessary, and utilizing every ounce of his intelligence to defeat them. When Stark’s most advanced technology falls short, he will create a never-before-seen armor, which fans will observe being constructed throughout the series as Tony continues to innovate and enhance it to tackle any challenges that come his way. The upcoming series will also introduce a new Iron Monger, clad in an enigmatic new armor.

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: I’m getting geared up for an epic showdown between Roxxon and A.I.M., and they’ve joined forces to go after Stark Unlimited. But they don’t realize they’re messing with the new and angrier Tony Stark. Iron Man is gearing up for a full-blown war! New armor, familiar foes, and mind-blowing surprises are in store as I take on this furious version of the Invincible Iron Man!

As a huge comic book fan, I must admit that receiving a Pulitzer Prize is an impressive achievement. Yet, nothing compares to the thrill of crafting stories for Marvel Comics, specifically Iron Man. The opportunity to contribute to this iconic character’s narrative is a long-cherished dream come true.

In his journalism career, Ackerman explained, I’ve gained experience covering real-life situations similar to those faced by Tony Stark. I’ve reported on national security, witnessing events like tech expos and observing the effects of experimental weapons on people. I’ve also followed the immense wealth generated from such technologies. With this background, writing about Tony’s challenges in a superhero context now feels natural to me.

Iron Man #1 goes on sale October 23rd.
